I can only account for the broiled captain’s combo, as it’s been my go-to dish every time I’ve ordered (dine in or takeout) for over 15 years now. A haddock filet with a crumb topping, 5 or 6 scallops, 6 or 7 shrimp and two sides. Can’t go wrong with the red potatoes and rice. The broiled combo is, without a doubt, the most delicious dinner I’ve ever had. The portion is large enough for two people even. It tastes exactly the same every single time I order it. Top it off with a slice of cheesecake with raspberry drizzle. Does a body good.

Old family dinner looking place, but the food is awesome! I have never had anything there I didn't love.Wheelchair accessibility: You're better off parking on the right side of the building if you have a wheelchair. It's too hard to turn around if you go up the left side of the ramp.

I’m a local. Sometimes we forget just how good our local places are. Balch’s never disappoints. It’s more than just fried fish. Their burgers are large and juicy, their roast beef is made in house. Their fried calamari rivals any Italian eatery in the area and surpasses most. Why? The breading is light the marinara is on point and they have tentacles!

Nice little place. Nothing fancy. Food was ok, not bad, just nothing really fantastic about the food. Service was good. Staff was friendly. Had to go down a set of stairs for the bathrooms.
The food is excellent. We had lobster, shrimp, stuffed grouper and the clam chowder. It was delicious. Can’t complain about the food. It was really good. There isn’t a lot of it, just be aware. 1 small lobster tail and 8 shrimp. The stuffed grouper was small too. For $40/entree we expected more food. Each came with a small side salad and 2 side dishes. We were never offered the chips or hush puppies, but we saw every other table had their basket. Why wasn’t it offered to us? No one knows. They have a liquor license, which is a plus. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The tables are REALLY close together. You are on top of your neighbors. Can we discuss the atmosphere? It’s like sitting in your grandma’s kitchen or in a high school cafeteria. Horrible! Old 1970s tables and chairs. Please come into the 21st century. No ambiance. No music. Dirty windows and window sills (I mean cob webs, dust and dirty faux flowers) It needs a DEEP cleaning and new furniture. The chairs are badly stained. There are bugs and flys everywhere, and near our food. Gross. It’s a disgusting and disturbing dining room. Please please please deep clean, and soon. The carpets and upholstery need a good steam cleaning. Next time, we will place an order to pick up and eat at home.

We used to love Balch’s. Fresh seafood galore. But tonight was different. My friend and I waited almost an hour to get our appetizers, Bangin’ Shrimp. Only got seven shrimp with very little green beans that went with the shrimp. Considering that at other times we would get around a dozen shrimp, this was very disappointing. We never did get the complimentary chips and cheese dip. After asking three times we were told they ran out of chips. Really? Then we had our salads. Used to love their salads. Big and green! But this time, however, they were smaller than we’d ever seen before. Huh? We had to wait again for our main dishes. My friend had the scallops. This time they came out with seven scallops that were heavily breaded (they were huge) and the price was almost thirty dollars. Before this, we usually got 12 - 13 medium sized scallops, very lightly breaded. During COVID the prices were raised but now the quantity of food is smaller. My friend took the breading off a few scallops to check the size of the scallops and they all had been cut in half as well as the heavy breading to disguise the size. Really? We’ve decided after many years of dining at Balch’s, we won’t be coming back. We feel like we’ve been ripped off. And my friend left hungry too, which never happened before. What a shame.
