Great coffee and nice folks!
This coffee shop is the lifeblood of downtown New Kensington. Employees are so amazing and always super nice and helpful. The shop atmosphere is always chill, and every time im in there, the conversation is always on point.
To the person who gave one star to this shop because you arrived after closing time, not cool. If they have cleaned up, why would they start a fresh pot of coffee just for you. Because you came 30 minutes from Monroeville? Grow up. What if they had an appointment they had to make after work? Or a nanny to relieve? Not everything is about you all the time. Have someself-awarenesss, man.
Anyway, we New Kensingtoners love this place. 💚💚💚

The coffee is great, the flavors are creative and delicious, the pastries from local bakeries are always good (almost always some sort of dietary options), the staff are always kind and friendly! Absolutely our favorite coffee shop.

A super cool coffee shop in a super cool borough, I stopped in on my way to the Pittsburgh Brewery. I ordered their blueberry white mocha, it was amazing not too sweet with a really good espresso. The barista was super nice and welcoming.

I go here pretty often - before closing time - and tend to get the rose latte. They always have a lot of flavors in stock and their rotating seasonals are always fun.

As a small business owner, I always make an effort to support local businesses. Living in Monroeville, where we don’t have any local coffee shops, I often go out of my way to find unique coffee spots in other areas. Sometimes that means a long drive or even paying tolls, but I believe in supporting small businesses.
This was my first visit to Steel Cup, and unfortunately, it didn’t go as I had hoped. I arrived two minutes after their closing time and saw one person still inside. I explained to the guy behind the counter that I had driven all the way from Monroeville and only wanted a cup of coffee to go and a bag of beans. I even shared that this was my first visit, and I was excited to try their coffee.
While I completely understand that I was a couple of minutes late, his response was disappointing. He said you can buy the beans but firmly turned me away for the togo coffee. It would have only taken a minute or two to pour a cup of coffee and ring me up for the beans. Instead, I left empty-handed, with a sour impression of the experience after a long drive.
For me, good customer service—especially in a small business—means going the extra mile, particularly for a new customer who’s made a big effort to visit. Simply accommodating me, even with a request to lock the door behind me, would have made all the difference.
Unfortunately, this experience left me questioning the emotional intelligence and customer service mindset in this generation. I wasn’t asking for much—just a bit of understanding and hospitality. This could have been a moment to create a loyal customer, but instead, I left feeling unappreciated and disappointed.

Such a nice cozy little shop. Great place. They offered a diverse selection of drinks. I was able to purview a cardamon mocha, a vanilla blueberry latte, hibiscus iced tea, and drip coffee. All of it had good solid flavors making it feel like anyone could find what they wanted in that small selection, but they offered quite a bit more.
I didn't get any food while I was there, but I saw others with bagels and muffins and such. Inwas there for a local event and it was stellar.
