"Absolutely no lettuce!" You're here to try the local legend: the Zep sandwich. A Zep is not a hoagie, which has lettuce. A Zep has one meat, thick cut onions, thick cut tomatoes, provolone cheese, oregano, oil, and sweet peppers optional. That's it. I gotta say this sandwich is absolutely delicious. Eve's makes delicious food in this no frills ma and pa shop. It's a fun little regional particularity and well worth your time. P.S. I've been invited my misanthropic friend out for Zeps for a few months but he won't leave his house. I've begun referring to him as Zep Boy, much to my delight.
Purportedly one of the few sandwich shops in and around Norristown which still make a proper zep, i.e. “a hoagie without the cheese,” according to a local authority. Eve’s version more or less fits this description, showing how less can be more: fresh meat in rolls baked this morning; sliced onions and tomato with a squirt of oil and a dash of oregano—nothing fancy, but more than the sum of its simple parts.
