Really nice spot for a quick lunch. Their white hazelnut coffee with jelly is a must!
I grabbed a few items and they were okay, but I almost turned around at the door because of how dirty the entrance looked. This place really needs to clean their front glass, doors, and windows—it looks terrible and poorly maintained. Hard to enjoy a meal when the storefront is that ... dirty...! How is the kitchen hygiene? Who knows

The chicken banh mi i got was atrocious. Flavorless full of tendon and fat , no where near regular Lemongrass chicken you get from restaurants. It tasted just as it looked , bad.
There was a pink water chestnut drink Tasted half like nail polish remover and the half like decent sweet drink. However I could not get over the nail polish remover taste. We had other ppl try it. And she spit it out immediately. Had the baby try it and the smell made the baby gag. Something was wrong with it.

Ba Le was my to go place for the last 10 years and it went down hill for the last few months. Banh mi quality is no longer like it used to be. The freshness of the meat and quality are no longer appealing. The cashiers are paying attention to their phones more than the helping their customers.

Get excited when I come here because I’m coming from NJ. I always buy more than I plan to 😓 and the total adds up quick!
They have the best chả lụa! Some of my other favs snacks are chuối chiên, gỏi cuốn chay, bánh tiêu, and good drinks too! I use to get their bánh mì sandwiches, but prices gone up so I only buy it once in awhile now.
Space inside is tight and may seem a bit chaotic inside, but it’s worth it :) and the parking lot sucks so I prefer street parking by the building if possible.

Primo. Best Bahn Mi I've ever had. The secret is the fresh bread. Try the Lemongrass Beef and the fried Sesame Balls for dessert.

Good Banh Mi, I come here frequently to get the Dac Biet. The shrimp chips are also fantastic

Really Really good.
So I found out this place is one the OG Vietnamese bakeries of Philly. They bake their own baguettes and its honestly something I've never had in a banh mi. The bread itself was actually kind of soft and chewy, so even when I had my sandwich toasted it did not commit violence to my mouth (it did not cut up my mouth) nor did it disintegrate into bread crumbs! lol. So the bread was super impressive and tasty. You can buy a pack to-go if you'd like.
I ordered the roast pork belly banh mi (#2) and it was wonderful. It had the fat, the crunchy skin, the meatiness and the nice pickled veg. I honestly wasn't hungry in the morning but after taking 1 bite I had eat the entire banh mi in 2 minutes. It was really good. And they also offer tons of little rice boxes, hams, sausages, and sticky rice goods.
If you're ever around Philly you have to give it a try! I'll definitely be back.

I was a die-hard Ba Le fan until last night. This store is extremely busy and has gained a lot of popularity, but after my experience, I caution you to reconsider spending your money here due to their lack of integrity and apparent greed.
I’m sharing my experience last night through Too Good To Go (TGTG). When Ba Le started offering TGTG, I was excited to try it, as I’ve been a longtime customer. Unfortunately, I was appalled by the behavior of the owner or manager. I recognized him because I’ve seen him there many times—he regularly gives directions and trains staff. He is in his mid 40's, has black wavy hair and thick black-framed glasses.
When I approached him as a TGTG customer tonight, he initially grabbed two boxes of fresh shrimp summer rolls. He then walked away briefly and began chatting with another woman—presumably a family member or co-owner—while they both stared at me as if I were begging for food. It was incredibly rude and made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
When he finally returned, he swapped one box of shrimp summer rolls for vegetarian ones. That part was fine—I don’t mind variety. However, he then walked away again, pretending to look for a bag. When he came back, he quietly switched the remaining shrimp summer rolls for another box of vegetarian rolls. In the end, I received two boxes of vegetarian summer rolls and a sad bag of stale fried dough balls. The irony is that the bags he pretended to search for were clearly visible right in front of him the entire time—something he obviously knew as an employee.
This store seems to completely misunderstand the mission of TGTG, which is to reduce food waste and offer decent leftovers that encourage customers to return. Instead, they appear to look down on TGTG customers and intentionally give them the worst possible items or with duplicates. If that’s the attitude, why even sign up for the platform? This business is already extremely profitable, yet the behavior displayed tonight was disgraceful. Their low rating on TGTG speaks for itself.
Because they deliberately swapped items in front of me, offered clearly inferior replacements, and created such an uncomfortable experience, I will be taking my business elsewhere—and I encourage others to do the same. It’s eye-opening to see a successful establishment act so petty toward a loyal customer. Bottom line: they do not care about loyalty or community—only profit. They should remember they are not the only Vietnamese bakery in town, and there are plenty of newer places offering better options and better service.
To the owners of Ba Le: thank you for showing your true colors.

Ba Le Bakery has very good food and is definitely worth a visit. The staff are very fast paced and the food is made with care. The store has plenty of stock on the shelves if you want something quick to eat if you're in a rush. Keep up the good work 👍
