Bagels have gotten absurd. On the one hand, there are those fancy, so-called artisan bagels: sourdough, malted, wood-fired, over-the-top craziness that's designed for an era in which social media lets everyone pretend they're a Food Network star, with "authentic" techniques. On the other hand, you've got the chain stores: Panera-meets-Starbucks wannabees--Manhattan Bagel, Bagels & Co, Einstein--with pseudo-gourmet flavors like asiago and jalapeno. Both kinds of bagels are fine in certain circumstances, but it's worth remembering why people became obsessed with bagels to begin with... it's the simplicity.
The Bagel Shop is my go-to spot on campus for quality bagels the simple old fashioned way.
The gentleman who owns this place is super friendly, and always remembers my order: Everything toasted with whitefish salad, tomato and onion.
The bagel is thick and crispy crusted with a chewy interior. The whitefish salad is salty and creamy. The tomato is sweet and acidic. The onion brings crunch.
If you want real bagels, the kind that don't have to try so hard to be special, go here. The prices are low and the quality is high. The service is wonderful and the line moves fast.

Love this place sm, I started coming here when I got temple and it’s my favorite breakfast to get. The guy makes your order quick, the price is good and the food is perf. I get a an everything bagel with turkey bacon, egg (very fluffy scrambled), American cheese, with salt and pepper for $6. Anyways here’s a pic of my food. Try it out if ur in the area, it’s gas.
