Dinner at Bud & Marilyn’s was overall unimpressive. I had the fried chicken, which tasted okay, but there was not much meat on the pieces provided. The included biscuit was extremely dry. The selection of sides was only two items, and neither appealed to me. The funfetti cake was the highlight of the meal, it was tasty and huge! The upholstery on the seats could stand being replaced.
Absolutely fantastic food. Really great stuff. I highly recommend!
Our hotel was nearby so we walked over. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. I ordered the Lettuce Cup appetizer that is big enough for an entree for one person. It was one of the most delicious and creative dishes that I have ever had. We next ordered the Fried Chicken and this is where things really went downhill. The crust was not seasoned at all and the white meat was over fried to the point of being inedible. The dark meat was properly fried but was tasteless. I added nearly the whole bottle of hot sauce just to give it some flavor
Exceptional food! It’s eclectic soul food from all over the world
Food: Order the Grilled Shrimp Benedict, which comes with a side of potatoes, which was savory and filling! The potatoes were a little on the burnt side, so they were not my favorite. The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with whipped cream, strawberries, and basil, on the other hand, were so amazing! This could satisfy your sweet tooth without being too sweet. They also serve a very large serving, so this alone could be a brunch meal.
Atmosphere: Popular spot and brunch destination - great lighting, excellent service, and friendly people!
I cannot explain how impressed I was with this restaurant. It was under our hotel so we decided to give it a try and it way surpassed our expectations! It’s comfort food but kicked up so many notches! The fired cheese curds are other worldly, the perfect texture and flavor. Everything we tried was impressive, this is high on my list for any trip to Philly!
So, I placed an order from Bud and Marilyn’s, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience! First off, the chicken was downright disappointing—like, if I wanted bland, I could’ve just headed to the local gas station for a rotisserie. Honestly, I’d prefer KFC any day!
But wait! The macaroni and cheese with asparagus swooped in like a knight in shining armor. It was absolutely amazing—rich, creamy, and with just the right crunch from the asparagus. If that dish had a fan club, I’d be the president!
So, while the chicken was a total flop, the macaroni and cheese was the star of the show. If you order in, go for the mac and cheese, and maybe skip the chicken. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
Great spicy chicken wings
Relaxing early 1960's retro atmosphere. The service is fast. The burger is awesome!
Food was great! Spicy Tuna latkes...AMAZING!
felt like I got transported to 1970s

Unfortunately it seems like Bud and Marilyn's has gone downhill. It was admittedly a few years since we had last been to the restaurant before this weekend. First, we were seated in the one table that did not match any other (table, chairs, etc.) - the chairs were uncomfortable and metal. This was odd since we were eating at an off time (2:30 PM) and the restaurant maybe had 6 tables filled in total. We ordered fairly soon after seating and received our appetizer quickly. Unfortunately, it was another 40ish minutes after that that our entrees came out. Even worse was the half hearted apology without even an inquiry as if to we would like refills of our drinks (note, more than one person was drinking a soft drink/beer where the glass was clearly empty) but the waitress left soon after her "apology". Perhaps any of this could be overlooked if the restaurant had been full (as stated before, it was all but empty) or dramatically understaffed (it was not). It was pouring when our meal finished so we ended up just sitting at the bar, losing our bartender to a shift change about halfway through our first drink with no one really paying attention to us (we probably would have ordered a second round if the staff hadn't been wrapped up in whatever they were doing). Overall disappointing but at least the food was fine, even if service was pretty terrible.
This is my second time dining here and probably my last. The first time I was so impressed, but this time was underwhelming. It seems the waitress had a bit of a chip on her shoulder for whatever reason. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. I thought it was very strange that the chef sent the waitress back to tell me they were unable to cook onion slices. $19 for the meal and the chef makes a big deal about cooking a few onion slices? Is there not a grill in the kitchen? I could go to a diner or even a fast food restaurant and get cooked onions. Yet elsewhere on the menu, there are carmelized onions listed. I didn't even want or ask for carmelized onions, I just didn't want raw onions. Very off-putting. So I just asked for no onions altogether, because it was just very weird for something so minor to be made a big deal.
It was good and as in America, the portions are large as are the pieces of meat. I wish they would make the pieces smaller so that the cooking is uniform and the marination will work better!
We were there for an early Brunch-- so the noise level was quiet but got noisier as the meal progressed. We noticed that Philadelphia restaurants are on average "boisterous" to say the least. The service was very accommodating and friendly. And the food--excellent quality, served warm and in a timely manner. We enjoyed the Bloody mary's and the feel of the restaurant was inviting and friendly. We'd definitely recommend it and return when visiting Philadelphia in the future.
Great food and wonderful service. We brought some friends for their first time and had a great experience.
