Small but functional venue with a decent selection of beers. The real standout here is the pizza though, which was phenomenal. The pairing of the pizza and beer works perfectly and explains why the place was packed on a bitterly cold Wednesday night. Despite the large crowd, service was quick and friendly. Will be a must visit for me the next time I'm in Philly.
The beer was good but the cyder was just ok and more like a fizzy apple juice. Pizza is really a flatbread and had garlic in the sauce. There were no plates to eat the pizza which surprised me as it's not a food truck.
A spur of the moment, let’s get pizza and a beer and this was a quick walk near 9th street. The Eagles football game was on and of course, a lively, fun crowd with people eating pizza and drinking beer. We opted for a light beer and a sausage pizza. Both were very good and yes, the pizza has a thin, crisp crust. The decor is interesting, tables of all sizes some actually made out of doors…so interesting and fun. Staff friendly and accommodating.
Rude servers, generic brewery
Had pizza and drinks tonight. Atmosphere is casual and fun. A variety of drinks in addition to their great beers. I loved the thin crust of the pizza. Service is friendly and the owners are present and very welcoming. Great vibe!!!
Just a short walk from Pat’s, Geno’s, and Dough Head, Cartesian Brewing is the kind of down-and-dirty neighborhood spot we absolutely love. The vibe is unpolished in the best way—mismatched furniture, tables made from old doors, and a no-frills charm that feels lived-in and local. The beertender and regulars were incredibly welcoming, and it’s the kind of place we’d be at weekly if we lived nearby.
The Audacity Fruit Punch stood out big time—it’s what we’d call a “juicy juice beer”. True to its name, it’s bright, fruity, and tart, bursting with cherry, pineapple, and tangerine like the adult version of a childhood juice box.
PIZZA LOVERS! They have a pizza oven, but it’s not always fired up, so check their Instagram before banking on a pie. If its not open, highly recommend Dough Head. Either way, Cartesian is a Philly gem we’d happily revisit.
Great local beer
A neighborhood gem with great beers and wonderful service. The perfect place to catch a birds or phils game, and enjoy great company.
nice place
Fantastic beer, cozy atmosphere, and friendly staff. This is the type of business Philly needs to support. Small, gritty, and true. The beer is really delicious. They also make cocktails and have wine! And the pizza they sell there some days is awesome too.

Hands down the best pizza and beer I had in Philly. And I own 3 pizza restaurants!
Had a few nice brews and a good time - the hang enjoyed everything as well, and glad to see some kiddos about as I was with mine. Good vibes!
We’ve been going to Cartesian for a long time (long before the current bartenders), and historically they were friendly and welcoming of us and our children. A few months ago, we were treated extremely rudely by Raina, and today when we stopped in, she was unfortunately working and told us we aren’t welcome there. The beer is fine, but the people are incredibly rude. Happy to part ways, and if they’re willing to employ someone so obviously unhappy who feels the need to take it out on others, I doubt that bodes well for their future.
The inside is a pretty chill brewery. We didn't LOVE the beer options but knew they were limited in what we typically would order ahead of time. The IPA was not our favorite. Their fall fest I felt was pretty tasty, though. Prices for the pint were pretty good. But beyond these two options there wasn't really anything we were interested in trying-although that's probably our own bias as there were a lot of interesting available options.
What was most troublesome was that we specifically came for the CJ & D pizza. There was no indication outside or on their website that these wouldn't be available the day we went. Wish there were more communication/transparency specifically about this. Luckily plenty of places in the area to walk to get food after the pint.
Best thin crust pizza. Worth the wait.
