We went to Cleavers for lunch to try their Philly cheese steak. The restaurant is conveniently located near the shops at Liberty Square. There are a variety of sandwiches to choose from .. The sandwiches are big but they do not offer a 6 inch. So split it. it’s so big we could not finish one!

On a recent trip to Philly we asked the hotel concierge if we should go to Pat or Gino’s for steak and cheese. His immediate response was to go to Cleaver‘s. He said it would not disappoint. He could not have been more right! The steak and cheese was absolutely delicious. I highly would recommend if you are in Philadelphia to try this place.

Was very excited to try Philly’s iconic food dish and heard Cleaver’s was very highly ranked. We didn’t go wrong, as the bread, the meat and the cheese were all top notch at this no frills joint with a beer wall and casual dining. Would definitely recommend this as a must-try!

Absolutely top rate! Ordered just plain steak and cheese which is all I ever get. The roll was in another league…the meat plentiful and tasted great; maybe could have used a bit more cheese. Even the waffle fries were a step above others …not TOO crispy and w good taste. Seating was good and noise level not too much. only wished I had a milkshake but probably couldnt have finished it anyway!

Our roasted vegetable sandwich on an Italian roll was outstanding. Recommend this place for picking up something to eat in nearby Rittenhouse Square.

Sandwich was ready when I arrived and well heated. The spice and ketchup were right, but the steak was chopped way too finely. I felt like I was eating chopped meat, not steak.

I should have gone with a sandwich with more veggies, but the food is good.

**Cleavers Cheesesteaks: A Modern Take on a Philadelphia Classic**

Nestled in the heart of Philadelphia, Cleavers offers a delightful culinary experience that pays homage to the iconic cheesesteak. During a midweek lunch visit, I found the atmosphere refreshingly clean and modern, a stark contrast to the bustling streets outside. With only a handful of patrons present, the ambiance was relaxed, allowing us to fully savor our meal.

The service was prompt and friendly; after placing our orders at the register, we received our cheesesteaks neatly packaged in a bag. We opted to dine in, and I must say, the addition of roasted peppers in my cheesesteak was a standout. As someone who enjoys a bit of heat, the flavor profile was just right—though I couldn't help but envy my companion’s choice, which was significantly spicier and seemed to pack an even bigger punch.

However, I must address the pricing, which I found to be a bit steep. At $15.99 for a cheesesteak sans fries or a drink, and my companion’s at $19.99, our total bill climbed close to $50 after adding beverages. For a casual lunch, that felt a touch extravagant.

Despite the price, I appreciate the opportunity to explore new flavors, especially when traveling for photo assignments. Cleavers captures the spirit of Philly with its grit and charm, offering a cheesesteak experience that’s worth trying, even if it stretches the wallet a bit.

Food was great but when the place is full with people trying to order it does seem a little hectic so just be patient the food is with it.

This place came highly recommended from the hotel concierge and does get good reviews here, so I thought I'd give it a try. I was not impressed at all. The cheesesteak was very dry (hardly any provolone) and was very bland. There is no salt and pepper out on the tables, so no chance to season it myself. There is very limited seating in the dining area. Just a few tables and it is very cramped. Decent beer selection on the self serve taps, but difficult place to sit and enjoy a beer. Overall, I was disappointed and would look for other options next time I'm in Philly.

This place nails the Philly cheesesteak! Perfectly seasoned meat, melty cheese, and a roll that holds up. Seriously, it's one of the best I've had. And while you're at it, don't sleep on their egg rolls—they're surprisingly delicious. The waffle fries are a solid side, too; they are not as crispy as I would like them, but the flavor is definitely there. Overall, a fantastic spot for a classic Philly experience with some tasty extras!

I read reviews of this place so ordered a delivery and boy, was I misled. Tasty enough, but so skimpy on the meat. One of those places that the ends of the roll were 3 inches of bread!

Had a regular cheesesteak, provolone, peppers and onions. Really mid cheesesteak. Bread is too big for the amount of meat in it, and it's really light on flavor. Seating area is sad. Also way overpriced. Bathroom toilet was broken.

Feels like someone made a corporate formula for the place and forgot to make it delicious. I've had MUCH better in Philly. I've even had better from random delis in New York.

Waffle fries were fine but also uninspired.

Gonna see if someone in Rittenhouse Square wants the other half.
