Crust was an accidental find. I was strolling down the main street in Manayunk and the familiar vegan word caught my eye. Inside, I was surprised by the variety of baked goods, past the usual cupcakes and cookies. Multiple refrigerators house cheesecakes, cake cups, tiramisu, breakfast bakes, monkey bread, and more. We bought a seeded card (Mother's Day is around the distant corner) and a chocolate strawberry cheesecake. The strawberry cheesecake was dense and creamy with a crispy Oreo crust. I'd love to return for the pop tart. Updated from previous review on 2025-03-30

Last time here, we got a Chipwich and a Brookie. It’s been so long since I’ve had a chipwich (chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream in between). They nailed it!

I've always had a good experience getting custom cakes from Crust. I got a cute Christmas themed cake from them. I especially thought it was helpful that there were instructions on the box for proper storage and serving. The decorator is creative and did a great job on the cake with minimal direction from me. When I went to go pick up the cake I picked up a few other things in the store front. 2 soft, fancy vegan cheese, a 12 month women's empowerment calendar and a cute sticker!! Will continue to get special (and delish) vegan cakes from here!!!!!

Their cheesecake is to die for! I'm so grateful to have such a gem of a vegan bakery near me. Can't wait to return to try all of their baked goods!

Tried calling just an automated message. This does not address the questions I have. It would really be helpful if there was a person to answer the phone to speak to customers that are interested in ordering.

Found a massive hair in the food. Manager was rude and told me it was mine. Won’t be going back.

I was vegan for a literal decade, and I thought all the pastries I bought tasted exactly like Earth Balance brand butter, but were dry at the same time. Really odd. This place also bragged about excluding Jewish businesses on their social media a few days ago, and I could not agree more with a prior post from a few months ago that said the cookie tasted like a dog biscuit. I make them for my dogs, and the taste is purposefully bland. The peanut butter cookie of theirs that I had tasted SO similar! The other review mentioning the staleness resonates with me too…I bought almost $40 of goods to share with friends at the Manayunk food fest this year…(we were a large friend and work group meeting that is EXTREMELY diverse, from Gen Z-Boomers, I want to add), and they were NOT a hit. Some were spit out, and I ended up throwing out almost all of the fake Pop-Tarts. I rarely throw out food. The worker who got me the cookies, copycat Pop-Tarts, etc. was downright annoyed and rude too. I was extremely nice and tipped $10, as I am also in the food business, but never again! Dismal to have such aggressive and rude social media, mediocre baked goods to those of us extremely familiar with vegan food, and bothered staff. Support Dottie’s, Front Street Cafe, Goldie Falafel, or any of the awesome other vegan/gluten free option-offering Philly businesses!

My sister is a vegan and I was excited to try crust. The cookie sandwich was falling apart and it truly tasted like sand paper. In addition - this place is not inclusive and chooses to discriminate against people of a certain religion. Beware if you choose to buy anything from here.

Listen. I’ve been eating Crust baked goods since they were a pop up. I remember hearing tales of their rinkidink operation and watched them grow (surviving a pandemic where they opened somehow in the middle of and becoming a neighborhood staple as a result) into what they are now. This well oiled machine of vegan baked delights has a plethora of options. You can get cookies, bars, pop tarts that will make your head spin, gluten free options, candy bars, boutique gift items, and savory pastries that bring a tear to my eye (in a good way). They clearly care about people, animals, the environment, and their customers. This is a big “do attend” for anyone in or around Philly. A note: the pricing may be high, but talking to any of the employees they’ll assure you it’s so they’re paid fair wages and because ingredients come from local small businesses. Shop local!

recent trip back east someone took me here, they hadn't tried it yet but knew we are vegan. This is NOT what new school vegan baking has evolved to. Vegan baking has come a long way since the 90s and then some, and what they put out here is a step back into bad times and making you think you should be grateful for whatever bad food they give. Flours and powders should NOT pour out of a pastry like grains of sand, not integrated into the batter. Unacceptable!! No idea how they stay in business with weak samples but having 'vegan' in the name is NO EXCUSE! That was a Philly thing back in the day that saying 'vegan' meant an automatic acceptance in the community. Their vibe is be lucky and take it. Gross all the way around, be better Philly.
