I like it but they no longer carry the pastry items, the glitters, the plates of cakes and I almost don't go there anymore, I loved it there for that reason.

I have known and loved Fantes for many many years, having found them online and ordered over the internet from Houston, TX. Visited Philadelphia for the first time and of course had to visit Fantes - it was so well worth it! Just a pleasure to wander around and everyone in there so friendly and helpful. And I was overjoyed to see rainbow flags and know that this is a store where all people are welcome (though don't we wish the bigots would just stay home).I loved seeing the vintage kitchen items on display above the racks of goods for sale and the Fantes line that honors various family members is truly excellent. Plus, going to Fantes meant I discovered the Italian Market as a whole and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!Fantes, thank you for existing and for being glorious! I have bought so many items from you over the years and they're all great quality items that I use and use and use. Thank you!

I have shopped at Fante's for years. Always great selection and helpful service. Stopped by on a recent Sunday morning with a Peugeot pepper mill that I thought was broke. Brian (or was it Bryan) talked with me about contacting Peugeot. He had a contact, but it was a Sunday. He was incredibly helpful. I was considering buying another Peugeot pepper mill. He convinced me to wait and talk to Peugeot customer service. Hmm, he could have just made a sale! As I was walking around the store Brian offered to look at the mill I thought was broken. Brian took the mill apart likely cleaned it too! Turns out there was nothing wrong with the pepper mill. It works perfectly now. I did end up buying a few other things at Fante's that day. Appreciated Brian going above and beyond!

WHAT AN AMAZING STORE ! My wife bought a fantastic crepe pan for around 20 bucks when we were visiting Philly a few years back. This place has every item, utensil, device or appliance you might want in a kitchen !NOTE - Of course with over 22 million views of my Yelp reviews and pics in 2022 I can tell you what is great !

This is my absolute favorite supply store for my baking needs! The flavors and extracts are out of this world ☺️ I just ask that you guys add your website to your google description SEO. It was hard to find and I never knew you had one! You would have had a lot more money from me over the last few years lol

Not only the only place that had a replacement for my discontinued coffee pot for a affordable price, but the FASTEST shipping, I mean OMG, I was only without coffee for 2 days.

I am proud to recommend this kitchen shop. It was, and still is, my first place to buy my first very good kitchenware

First time we had our kitchen knives sharpened (pre-COVID), they were sharpened quickly and well done. Second time not so much. Took 4 hours to get five knives sharpened and when we opened them up at home, we were extremely disappointed. The clerk thoroughly checked the knives when we dropped them off which seemed like a good start. We were told 45 minutes. Then we were told an extra half hour. Then we were told they were on lunch break so they wouldn't be done for an additional couple of hours. That's a long time to hang out in the Italian Market. No call telling us they were done. And then to find out they did a terrible job. Our smooth blade knives were now slightly serrated. My husband had to reshape/resharpen all of the knives. One of our Japanese knives had a shape to it that was ground away. So disappointing after our previous experience. My recommendation is you ask who will be sharpening your knives and if they have experience doing so ... and ask how many knives are in line before yours so you get a better sense of the duration.

I'm new to Philadelphia. A month ago, I found myself wandering the Italian market and, to my and my empty cabinet's delight, I happened across Fantes. I was greeted by the rich aroma of their freshly roasted coffee beans. Their floor man, David, immediately asked if I needed help and we went to work on an extensive shopping list. I was incredibly impressed by his wealth of knowledge; from the mass of the mauviel m'150's copper layering to his preferred pasta crimping method, David knew it all. The coffee section was no different; Jonathan, a veritable coffee sommelier, gave me a lurid tour of each of Fante's blends. Espresso Riserva is my favorite thus far, but Jonathan's choice, Ethiopian Yigraffe, is a real gem. I've since returned several times to peruse their exceptional Le Cruset collection and to get more of their delicious coffee. The service, without exception, has been impeccable. I even entrusted them to sharpen my knives and I must say they were treated royally; they did a masterful job re-edging my Shun Nakiri, and promptly returned them within the hour. I was shocked to read a recent review, before writing my own, that complained about their sharpening work; my knives were returned with marvelously sharp edges and were wrapped delicately. Properly sharpening a Japanese knife is no easy feat. This is a real one stop shop, an exemplar of small business know-how, and a group of kind, thorough, and knowledgeable employees. I will be returning frequently throughout my time in Philadelphia and beyond. I can't recommend Fantes more!

No other place like it - a must-visit when in the 9th Street Market! I sure hope the staff is payed well and/or gets bonuses, the floor people are the nicest, most knowledgeable out there, what a great shopping experience!

Even COVID could not kill this venerable 100+ year old business. In a world of poor service i love that some people still care enough to really know what they sell and take the time to share that - thank goodness for small family businesses! If culture, ethics, and caring still matter to you too, then consider supporting them - you will not pay more but your purchase will make a difference. You will help a unique and diverse local community to thrive.

Highly recommend. Ordered a Mauviel copper lid from here in a size that was out of stock nearly everywhere. Price was fair. Lid was packaged with care and shipped quickly. Wish I'd have known about this shop when I lived in the Philly area 20 years ago.
