One of my favorite places in the world.
On summer break as a grad student, I was visiting Philly and spent a morning studying for exams here, before I had any idea I'd move to Philadelphia. Vegan food and a soundtrack specifically to my tastes? Yes, please.
Since moving to Philly in 2019, this has been one of my absolute favorite places to eat. A BLAT or Kropotkin on ciabatta is just superb, but--having ventured beyond those two favorites from time to time--I think it's hard to make a bad choice from their food menu.
Now, I don't think their coffee drinks are the best in the city and--especially having moved a few blocks further away a few years ago--I'm a little confused that they don't do business with a delivery app (for lazier days). And I wish they were open later so I could enjoy them even more often!
But these are very small complaints that I'm merely including to offer a more complete review of a place when--given less space to express myself--I would just say something like "they're the best".
Because they're basically the best.

Service was really fast, but be prepared to spend like $20 on breakfast for one person. I got an iced vanilla latte with oat milk and the grizzly sandwich for $24.53 (including tip). The latte was really sour/bitter. The sandwich was pretty good but I don’t know if it was worth the cost.

Everything was a disappointment. The food ( I ordered a standard, w/ out tofu) was god awful, just dry bread, old dry meat and just every bite it got worse. Then let down extremely but a vanilla latte which I thought would be safe. Nope, espresso was extremely bitter and stale, tasted like old brewed beans poured into an endless supply of milk and quick melting ice, just a watery, bitter let down. Staff was nice enough but I wouldn’t come back and spend money on overpriced lazy prepared food/ drink.

It's been said that "if the music is too loud, you're too old". Lucky for this 68 year old they reduced the volume soon after our arrival. The food and coffee were excellent. Peanut butter bomb was amazing. Will return asap.

The food was excellent. Everything was what we expected and priced accordingly the grizzly breakfast sandwich was really good, as we’re all the other sandwiches, The music was a little loud brought me back to my head banging days as a teenager, The service was adequate. They were somewhat busy.

First time here with my husband for a coffee date and I am thrilled to see an antique building well preserved and put to good use. The coffee and tea is fabulous, and the staff is friendly and professional. I also appreciate how clean they keep the shop. I can’t wait to come back and get some gluten free food.

Happened to stumble upon Grindcore House and went based on the power of the name. Sadly, no grindcore was playing inside, but the space was clean and quaint. The food itself was a little pricey but the amount of coffee you get helps balance things out
