My friend and I were pleasantly surprised by how many Middle Eastern items were on the menu. The name "Gyro King" does not convey how many fresh salads and veggie-friendly & gluten free options are also available. The place felt comfortable and unlike any of the fast food establishments on the block. The city's Civic Center is great for culture and outdoor events but it's such a desert compared to what makes the rest of San Francisco attractive and lively. This restaurant gives the area a wonderful, neighborhood-type place in a section of town that really needs it.
Went there before the symphony, a block orc2 away. Quick, friendly service. Order at the counter and they bring it out. Serve yourself water. My nephew had the lamb and chicken gyro meat combo, which comes with salad, rice and couscous. Alot of food. I loved the Falafel with Greek salad, cabbage, and hummus. The unique pita bread, I believe, is Turkish. All so delicious!
My knowledge of Mediterranean food is one of my weaker culinary areas. We have had Greek in France and the U.K. but were not impressed. This is a block away from the Orpheum Theatre which we showed up to 2 hours early for rush tickets. We asked a theatre security guard for a recommendation and he pointed it out. When we arrived at the entrance, we could see the inside was very inviting. While we were checking out the menu in the window, the owner came out and invited us in. I had the combo (beef, chicken, lamb) gyro and my wife had the salmon kebab: outstanding on both. All the meats were perfectly prepared with rice and salad sides for the kebab. Very generous portions so we did not try any of the pastries which would definitely be on the list for a future visit. Family staff extremely friendly and gracious.
You won’t regret coming here. I love the people the food and the energy here. Beautiful place. Shout out.
A surprisingly decent Greek food place. There was nothing I didn't like there as far as the food goes. The space feels open and nice enough, the service is good.
I have been there many times and the food is authentic and delicious. The salads are fresh and the ingredients are healthy as well as delicious.
Been coming here for 15 years and always quality. Great prices and friendly people. A true gem in the area. (And not a trendy spot opened due to Twitter, etc) Get the combo gyro platter and enjoy!
Big lier
Very flavorful rice and sides, some of the best around. Quick, friendly, clean. Affordable. Tzasiki was delicious.

Yes I can say that the food is realy like in turkey because I have been there many times and the food is authentic and delicious only the price is 4 times higher in SanFrancisco....
his has been one of my go to places in San Francisco especially while visiting SF City Hall, the Asian Museum or the Civic Center area for a quick & reasonable lunch. The salads are fresh and the ingredients are healthy as well as delicious.
I have been to the Gyro King Café on Grove Street numerous times over the past ten years. The food is prepared fresh daily and is really tasty. My favorite dish is the Chicken Shish Kabob plate. It comes with a combination of rice, bulgar, salad and bread. If you don't like bulgar, you can request a double portion of rice and/or salad. The kabobs are nicely seasoned and grilled when you place your order and come with tzatziki sauce. The potato salad, hummus, dolmas, and baba ghanoush are delicious. The spinach, chicken, and ground beef pies are also really good. (The café serves Halal meat.) The Baklava with walnuts is prepared fresh daily by the owner's sister, and it's the best that I have ever had in San Francisco. The staff is very nice and friendly. I highly recommend for lunch and/or dinner.
