Food and coffee are decent, but I regularly find myself leaving early because of the service. There have been multiple occasions on which the staff have been extremely rude and standoffish. I’m sure higher grounds has plenty more customers willing to buy, but I personally don’t find the stress of dealing with pissy baristas worth a decent cup of coffee

I was meeting friends here before work and when I walked in, the blonde man-bun guy behind the counter asked if I wanted anything. I was walking past the counter because I didn't. He was kinda being a dick about me not buying anything right away, which is unlike any other coffee shop I've been to in Philly. He let me sit down after I told him I was waiting for friends. Then he kicked me out when I pulled out my laptop to work on a project. I wasn't even using wifi or power. My friend bought something too, it's not like we were just taking up space. Not that there was many people in there, anyways. That guy made me so mad. I hope he reads this, or his boss reads this and he gets fired, or that someone else reads this and decides not to go.

Coffee shop with great vibes, cool artwork, excellent drinks, and yummy food. My knitting group has been going to Higher Grounds for more than 15 years, and it has remained such a great space to pass a few hours all this time. There are always vegan options, and my omnivore friends love the specials and the regular menu. The pineapple basil smoothie is amazing! I highly recommend HG if you want that super chill coffee house vibe for studying or meeting friends.Vegetarian options: Don’t miss out on the soups!

An absolutely wonderful coffee shop! I came here to work on a manuscript, and have a meeting a few hours later. Had a lovely bagel, the guy behind the espresso machine was top notch. Great tunes piped in through the sound system. Probably the best place to get some work done with a first rate coffee in this part of Philadelphia.

Come here for the ambience, not for the food. I got bacon egg & cheese- although bacon & egg were very fresh, but the bagel was dry. The matcha latte was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Servers were sweet and helpful. Bang for buck: 6.3/10

Come here all the time to get a bite to eat and some coffee. Great food (highly recommend the turkey wrap), great atmosphere, and a nice cup of joe to boot.
The furnishing is great, very cozy and vintage. The choice of furniture and display of art goes well with the drink too. Very quiet, suitable for reading ( I went on a morning). Would recommend giving a try!

Perfect cozy, comfy, inviting space to sit and relax a while with some great coffee. Perfect for a rainy day. I absolutely love this magical coffee house! The customer service is always tops, the food is great and the coffee is spot on. The vibe is super chill and inviting. Definitely a breath of fresh air when it comes to originality. If you're in the neighborhood I suggest you pop in for a beverage. You will love it!
