Under new Management from what I heard. Always talked this place up. Walked in tonight and they told me they couldn't make our order because they were busy. 4 tables were served. Asked for a Manager. No Manager. Asked me if I was new to the area. My husbands family has been here for 90+ years, they know Chesnut Hill. If I could give it zero stars I would. 1 star is a compliment!

The gyozas are my favorite. Literally nowhere else in the area makes them like they do. They are the fried pork gyozas. They are super crispy and the sauce that comes with is delicious. I always get those then hit CinCin next door for lo mein and general tso’s. Takeout and dining in is great. The atmosphere is super cool. I’ve also gotten sushi at the counter and it was tasty. It is a tad expensive for the gyozas $6-8 for the 5 gyozas but worth it.

Was looking for good JPN food in the area and decided on Hokka Hokka. Knew the place was popular but needed somewhere nice for a birthday. We. Were. Satisfied!
The Atmosphere:
The restaurant has great ambience, traditional table seating and a bar. We came around 5 so we were only 1 of 4ish groups as the restaurant opens at 4.30. You'd think this would be a downside but having what felt to be a large space to ourselves was very nice.
The Service: The service was nice. Shoutout to Siegfried, our server for the evening. Very patient guy with a great attitude and good recommendation for my indecisive party. Everything was brought out in a timely manner, appetizers coming out in around 5 minutes with entrees 7-8.
The Food: The food easily, the best I've had in a minute. First Japanese place I've been too in a minute that doesn't sell fried rice and prioritizes other traditional Japanese cuisine. Everything under the entree section aims to fill you and it does it right. I'd recommend the Gyudon as that packed meat and rice dish had me ready to pass out when I done. I'd also recommend the drunken scallops. My group was so addicted to it they tried asking for the sauce to-go and ended up ordering another order to bring with them.
Summary: Great food, more items then your usual sushi shop. Great drinks, friendly staff. Price can be intimidating but it is definitely worth it for a solo trip or special occasion. 10/10 would recommend.
We love picking up take out from Hokka Hokka! It’s always ready on time and well packaged. I’m so happy we live close by
The worst tuna roll I've ever received. The tuna was brown and oily and completely inedible. Ordered for cucumber to be added to the roll and it wasn't.
I visited this place a couple of months ago and arrived about an hour before closing. Not long after we sat down, the manager (I assume) loudly announced to the entire restaurant that they’d be closing in 20 minutes. It was awkward and made the atmosphere pretty uncomfortable.
The food and prices were okay, but the overall experience was soured by the abrupt and unnecessary announcement. Our waitress was the kind and attentive though.
Had dinner here just the other day, it was nice it was not crowded at all but the service was still slow. The rolls were nice so was the miso and also the scallops in truffle sauce was quite good! They also offer a sushi boat we did not get it this time but maybe in the future.
Very nice staff! Wonderful food and I was surprised by their wide range of cocktail offerings. Nice happy hour menu.

Our first time coming here, my wallet was stolen sitting at the sushi bar. Despite the food being fine, we won’t be back
Great sushi place definitely will be returning

One of the best Sushi restaurants around. I worked with the Owner 18 years ago and when he left being a sushi chef where I was Bartender to open his own restaurant, that was the best decision he could have made! Show your support and go have dinner there! Everything on the menu is amazing!!!

This used to be my very favorite sushi restaurant. Everything was always top-notch and so delicious. Dined here last night and the menu is much smaller - many of my favorite items are no longer available. The rolls we ordered were most definitely different than what I experienced in the past and not in a good way. Very average. I was told by a friend this place is under new management Probably a good idea to go back to the old ways because I won’t be back anytime soon if this is the new normal.
