My husband took me out to Philly for an early Mother’s Day gift. He said we were going to a “speakeasy” type bar in Chinatown but I didn’t believe him. When we got to an iron screen door, he was like this is it and I was like you got to be kidding me. The owner came out, asked my husband if he knew it was a cash bar took our ids then went inside. The owner brought back our ids then took us inside to a foyer where he told us the rules of the bar. Cash only, absolutely, no photography and no phones. If you need to take a phone call, you go back to foyer area or outside to not disturb people. We agreed to rules and went inside. The bar was dimly lit with candles on each table. The decor was amazing with pictures and antiques on the wall. We were sat at a table and given a cocktail menu. The cocktails were unique and separated by whiskey, gin, vodka and rum. If you need a light since it is so dim in the bar, they will bring you a light because they brought one to my husband. There were no beers on the menu so if that is what you’re looking for then this isn’t the place for you. We ordered our cocktails and they were amazing. Since there is no phone usage, you have more of an intimate experience with the person you are with because you aren’t distracted by your phone. We sat and talked while drinking our drinks. The owner came over and asked us about our drinks and how we were doing. We then ordered another round of drinks and continued talking. We enjoyed our time at Hop Sing Laundromat. Service was great, bartenders were great, owner was great, and the ambiance was amazing. This is a great date night spot for anyone who wants to enjoy a intimate setting with a cocktail or two. I would post pictures but again, No Photography so you would have to go in order to see it to believe it. You will enjoy this experience and not be disappointed.
Great place Love the rules!!
… He decided to kick us out and threw some racial slurs at us on our way out. I’ve never seen someone so rude in my entire life. (2/2)
We tried to go to Hop Sing Laundromat tonight. My family is visiting from France and doesn’t speak English very well. The host didn’t like that they were not following his orders… (1/2)
I would say, the best way to think of this place is like a speakeasy. It’s fun, it’s eccentric, and it’s a great experience. There are some rules you have to agree to follow as part of the entry, but in my opinion they make sense — not only because they’re common courtesy to those around you, but they ensure a fun atmosphere and enjoyment for everyone within. The service is wonderful, the staff are friendly, and the whole place feels well rounded. We had a great time and I would recommend this place to anyone interested in delicious cocktails shared with a small group or date, surrounded by art and music

Absolutely loved it! One of the best cocktails I’ve had in any city, plus the venue has great vibes. The cocktails had lots of terrific flavors I’d never imagined having in a drink before. Would highly recommend!

We live out of town and did not know where this place was. We rang the bell twice not knowing that this was the restaurant. The employee that came out cussed at me for doing that and told me to leave. Very rude. Then the employee started bad mouthing the lady that I was with.

Wouldn't let us in because we asked for a "speakeasy" rather than a "bar" then the bouncer proceeded to watch us walk up and down the street looking for the venue. Entitled bouncer gave us an attitude because we called the bar the incorrect name. Expect better for philly

We visited on a Friday night and had a great time! Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a delicious drink in a gorgeous establishment. The drinks are fantastic, and there’s something for any palate. The service was great, and we can’t wait to come back next time we’re in town. We didn’t have a wait because we got there early, but absolutely understand why there’s often a line to get in.

EDIT: After leaving this review I found that the owner found my personal instagram account, and personally blocked me via his personal instagram and the hopsinglaundromat instagram and posted my name lying about the situation on Facebook. It has felt very stalkery. I have also seen reviews detailing personal information from peoples’ IDs in response to reviews. The only information he has about me is from my ID at this bar and my name from this review. Be careful about giving your personal information to this bar.
I opened my phone to fix my face makeup without taking a photo and my group was immediately kicked out by the owner. The owner was extremely rude and immediately kicked us out without allowing for an explanation from me, and kept saying rude things to us without anyone taking a photograph. When I tried to explain he acknowledged that I didn’t take a photo and said “I believe you WOULD have taken a photo” to which I replied that I did not take a photo and he kept repeating this over and over again and ushering us out. He never specified to turn our phones off or anything of the sort. I understand there is a no photography rule but no photograph was taken and this treatment was extremely demeaning, and my group were all people of color and we felt discriminated against. We have been extremely excited to visit this place and have been trying to go for a while and we were very disappointed with the behavior of the owner, especially since we did not actually break the rules of the establishment. Because of this we weren’t even able to buy a drink. After reading several reviews I see that this is a pattern of behavior towards people who visit the establishment who are people of color calling people “hoodlums” and things like that. The owner is a very entitled and judgemental man who feels he can treat people poorly since he owns the place, but he takes advantage of the power dynamic he has over customers. I am actually very glad I did not pay money there because I cannot support such blatant racism.
