I’ve been coming to Jim’s since the 90’s and I’m not even from Philly.
In my 20’s I literally drove from NYC one night just because I was craving a classic Philly cheesesteak.
Came back last night for the first time in almost 10 years.
Jim’s is exactly what you want in a cheese steak. Made fresh, hot, and covered in whiz. Service is great and friendly.
A staple of South Street.

We are from Florida and this was our first Philly Cheese steak experience. The sandwich was prepared quickly and a quick check out. We requested a Cheese Wiz and a provolone both fully loaded. After first bite we found the sandwiches to be tasteless. The steak was bland, the mushrooms were from a can, even the cheese wiz was bland. The sandwich with the provolone was dry. We were very disappointed. However when it comes to food if this is what you grew up eating and it's what your used too then its probably a great sandwich for you. But not for us.

Given Jim’s reputation, I expected a better experience. While the sandwich was fresh, it lacked flavor. The wait was manageable thanks to the fast staff, but the overall cleanliness was very concerning. The bathroom was in extremely poor condition and the dining area did not feel well maintained. For such a famous establishment, I believe more attention to hygiene and upkeep is needed.

The food here was bad. Really bad. Dude working the grill was rude and the cashier was even worse. The attitude is wild towards their customers. Asked the man to add my lettuce and tomato on my sandwich he said “WE AINT DOIN ALLAT”. Little girl behind the register looked like i insulted her mother when i took out my card to pay: “ITS CASH ONLY GO TO THE ATM BEHIND YOU”. They got security with glocks guarding the most bland sandwich i’ve ever had in my life. An average deli in nyc can make a better sandwich than the dog food being served here. Genuinely one of the worst meals i’ve ever had. $60 for 3 sandwhiches in the middle of the hood. Don’t waste your time. I can understand why they are cash only. If I paid card I would’ve reported the transaction as fraud instantly.

Been going here since 1985. Steak sandwichs are awesome. However I went for the 1st time since their fire. Steak sandwich lacked seasoning. I never had a bad steak sandwich but this one, was for the first time in 40 years,,,,, was just OK. Beautiful remodel.
