I'm not from around here, that said, I want to let you all know I had the best cheesesteak here today! The beef is just so tender! Excellent choice for enjoying a quality chopped steak sandwich. Thank you, Jim's!

So happy this place is back open! The line was a little long but well worth the wait! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We took our sandwiches to go but there were plenty of tables for staying and eating. It is a cash only place, so either bring cash or be prepared to use the ATM in the restaurant. Overall I will definitely be adding this into my regular rotation!

Been a while since I've been but it was always a solid sammy. Definitely a good option. Like to see how they bounce back.

So Jim's just reopened after a long break after their fire and while I really dont eat commercial cheesesteak like u can find at places like jim's and pat's and geno's and a few other notorious spots around the city I figured if I was ever gonna try one of these spots again it may as well be when the shop is pretty close to brand new and cleaner than it will ever be, and it was every surface of that place is spotless and sparkling from the tiles of the exterior to the floors and tables to every inch of the kitchen, even the hood which was usually in the past caked with grease is right now sparkling almost chrome. Even though I think this spot which did have a line running out the front door that moved slower than any cheesesteak line I have ever been in, I understood its like that anytime a popular restaurant opens or reopen ad it will get faster in time as the worker learns to work out all the kinks. But I was saying even though it was filled with philly locals who probably grew up on jim's, i dont think this is really a spot locals go, just like most locals dont go to pats or genos this spot like them is a tourist trap, its lower quality for the most part than other steak gems in the city and this theory was proven again. I mean listen for the price it is what it is. for like $13-14 you get a quick meal that is ok I guess. I mean it was the greasiest steak I have had in a long time, it was actually the greasiest any food I have had in long time, the meat was ultra chopped with not too much texture or flavor, I could barely taste the cheese and the vegetables, i got the cheesesteak hoagie, american with fried onions, were not too tasty either but they helped put some different texture component in there. I added a ketchup for taste as I did growing up. It wasnt well packed so when I opened it half the meat fell out. Compared to some other spot the amoroso I believe bread was ok but not too tasty or whatever its just a carrier for the meal. I dont know I feel like I a being pretty negative but like its what I expected. I will say I got no gristle pieces which is something I was used to running into growing up eating these all the time. ALso all the workers were really nice and I saw nothing that even remotely came close to a health code issue which isnt neccessarily something I can say about most mass market cheesesteak shops. It is what it is, tourist trap greasy low cost cheesesteak fast food spot. I guess you cant have the good without the not so good existing too. ALSO DONT FORGET CASH ONLY!!! almost didnt have enough.

Still not open. So I went to another one of Jim's Cheesesteaks in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Just not the same experience...but good

I've been to South St many many times and this is where we ALWAYS ate. My visits were long ago, so take it with a grain of salt. However, I still hear they're great. My advice is skip the wiz and go with regular or Cooper American and friend onion. Ketchup or Mayo if you prefer, but never sauce. And peppers on a cheesesteak is unheard of in Philly, I don't know why that's a thing outside of the area, so don't even think about it.

Looks like this place is temporarily closed (due to fire according to their website) as of 1/23/2004. But I need to create a 'note' to myself and my colleagues in case I need to return for Philly cheesesteak.I am sure there are better ones out there, but out of several cheese steak shops I tried (on recommendations), this place stands out.Jim's South is location is not ideal (gets scary at times a tourist) but I can overlook it make the effort to revisit here if I am nearby.

Jim's is hands down a must if you're in Philly, top notch sandwich. Been there several times and I've never had a problem or had to wait too long even with a long line. However, guy on the grill was either having a bad day or is just an everyday complete A/H. Was rude to customers in line and to the other employees. Not going to stop me from going there but someone's going to smack that dude one day.Sandwich - 5 stars, that guy - 0

Best classic cheesesteak in Philly hands down - great spot to sit and eat too. Check out the stacks of Amoroso’s boxes - you know Jim’s is legit.
