Seems that most of the menu can be made vegan being they have seitan and vegan cheese. I got vegan birria tacos which were delicious: very creative where the base is braised yams and black beans topped with hominy, and everything is enclosed in 2 fried corn tortillas. Very filling. 3 tacos & the consomme for $18. Got the chips and salsa too. The salsa verde was delicious. Drinks were in a cooler (Hank’s, Jarritos, Mexican Coke, water). I ordered some tamales for Christmas and they were absolutely incredible. I don't make it down to South Philly much since I live and work in two other parts of the city, but I think I'm going to have to start coming up with excuses to make it down this way more often.
I’m a vegetarian, so I was excited to try the vegan birria tacos, but was a little disappointed when I realized they were just filled with chickpeas and black beans. I was hoping maybe it would be served with vegan “beef” or seitan to give the tacos a meatier texture. Flavors were delicious nonetheless. It just felt like the $18 price point for bean tacos was a bit overpriced.
