We were a party of 2, paid 80$+ gratuity for the waitress who was nice. We drove all the way from NYC to try authentic Moroccan food but it was very disappointing and border line offensive honestly. Let me start by saying that we are actually Moroccans so we know what each of the dishes “should” taste/look/feel like so I’ll give a breakdown of our experience in all honesty:

Meal 1: salad (zaalook + cucumbers & tomato + sliced carrots) —this salad was decent and zaalook tasted good however the pita bread was cold and crusty

Meal 2: bastilla—-that was NOT bastilla, it was scrambled eggs with 2 pieces of chicken in some cheap wrapping (warqa) that breaks with a spoon. This particular one was offensive to any type of Bastila I’ve had in my entire life. Authentic Moroccan Chicken bastilla is based off a lot of shredded chicken (breast, tighs mostly) and it’s cooked in a pressure pot with the different seasonings and herbs and the eggs are grinded to the point you don’t even see it in real bastila. This one in particular was a sad knock off of bastilla and I’d even rename it to scrambled eggs taco

Meal 3: roasted chicken in Moroccan sauce (daghmira) - absolute disaster, the sauce (daghmira) was watery and lacked the sauce carmalized onions authentic Moroccan daghmira should have and to top that the chicken was not even roasted and almost raw also they didn’t add olives or French fries that are almost always accompanied with that dish

Meal 4: 1 kebbab and a piece of lamb that is supposed to be (lamb with prunes and almonds) except that the lamb didn’t have any prunes and was dipped in some weird sour sauce and the kebab was so zesty it’d burn your tongue. The lamb was so bad to the point of offense and the portion wouldn’t even feed a cat.

Meal 5: couscous. This one in particular was rubbish, I’ve never seen couscous with 1 piece cut out potato, 1 carrot, prunes, 8 chick peas and shredded chicken breast and the couscous below was cold. I almost threw up when I tasted this.

And we had to actually stop here and not get to the next meals so I just asked for the bill and gave gratuity only because the waitress was welcoming. Because when we got there the guy who opened the door was so aggressive and tried to seat us in a children’s table. All because we were a walk in and he didn’t like it when I told him that I called and the owner said for party of 2 we can just walk in.

Bottom line is: if you’re going to name your business after a Moroccan city and claim to cook authentic Moroccan food you should do it the right way by actually having people who have experience in cooking Moroccan food. This experience of mine with this place was so disappointing, shameful and offensive. Never stepping foot there again.

Food was bland (with the exception of the first course and the chicken) and the seating/table arrangement made the meal uncomfortable. Staff was alright but not very friendly. Genuinely don’t understand the great reviews unless we had an off night for some reason…

Our party of four had an unforgettable experience at Marrakesh! From the moment we arrived, the evening felt special, you actually knock on the door to be welcomed inside, which immediately sets the tone for something unique. The décor is stunning, with an authentic and stylish design that transports you straight to Morocco.

The meal itself was a journey. They serve a series of dishes from appetizers all the way to dessert, and you can choose between lamb, beef, or vegetarian options; everything was flavorful and beautifully presented. The atmosphere is made even more vibrant with Arabic music playing in the background, and we were lucky to enjoy a talented belly dancer who brought so much energy and fun to the room.

To top it all off, the owner personally came around to greet every table with warm Middle Eastern hospitality. That thoughtful gesture was the cherry on top of an already amazing night. Highly recommend Marrakesh for anyone looking for a truly unique dining experience in Philly!

Yes yes yes and again yes. Truly great and wonderful restaurant. One of the best restaurants in Philly. This restaurant i recommend first when people ask me for recommendations. Good is soooo delicious. We were sooo full and overwhelmed, in good way, with amount of food, but couldn’t stop eating because its fire 🔥. Baklava is one of the best baklavas I’ve ever eaten(and I’m huge fan of it). Veggie platter I loved so much, but honey lamb . O M G… the best lamb I’ve ever eaten. It basically melts in your mouth. Service is great, such a friendly and caring staff. They truly love and care about what they’re doing. It’s not just a food, it’s also an experience. The washing hands with rose water and eating from authentic plates brings you to Marrakesh. It felt like I travelled to this city without leaving Philly. Definitely recommend to everyone and I will visit it again again and again

This is one of those hidden gems in Philly that everyone has to experience.

Family style 7 course meal- the only decisions you make are what wine you bring and the choice between beef or lamb.

All the food was incredible. The eggplant and the chicken were some of the best dishes I’ve ever tasted.

They do an incredible job of making you feel like you’re in a family home in Morocco, not steps away from South Street.

Highly recommend making a reservation.
When you arrive, you ring the doorbell to be let in the restaurant. From the start, the atmosphere is so immersive. You sit on low cushioned benches around a huge gold tray perched on a stand. Pillows cover the seats.
First, they pour warn rose water over your hands in preparation for eating. As it's a Moroccan Restaurant, and the food is served communally, you're encouraged to eat with your hands. They do provide silverware if you wish.
The server does a great job of asking after any allergies or dietary needs before starting. Then they ask you if you want lamb or beef kababs (we got the lamb, next time we'll try the beef), and you get a choice between 2 types of chicken. After that, it's a parade of food. (They say 7 courses, but the 2 desserts are served in one course) I've pictured all of our courses... we may have eaten some before taking a couple of pictures 😆.
The servers offered to take a group picture and were very on top of filling drinks and making sure we had enough food.

In a previous visit, there had been a belly dancer, but we didn't see one this visit. Also, the website listed here on Google appears to be AI generated and doesn't have accurate information, so call with any questions.
