Hours posted said it would be open. I arrived at 12:30pm on a Saturday and it was closed.
Friends and I visited twice in consecutive late weekend mornings. Very good croissants and coffee selections. Looks like the early bird patrons have the advantage here. Would go back (earlier) when in Philly again.
Metro has been my favorite lunch spot near Penn’s Campus for the past three years, but I think this most recent time will be my last. Waited about 45 minutes for my sandwich- had to go up and ask them to make it, as they accidentally gave my sandwich away to someone else and didn’t even have the order. Didn’t apologize or do anything to make it right- the employee serving me threw my sandwich in front of me and walked away.
The wait would have been fine if the staff truly apologized, or actively offered to make it right. Incredibly disappointing behavior- new management needs to step up and change this asap.
Their Tarragon Chicken Salad is to die for. My daughter used to work there and I miss her bringing me home lots of yummy bread. The staff are great and were willing to cut my roll the way my daughter used to. Special shout out to Dawn. See her Thursday through Sunday.
My wife and I stopped by the Metropolitan Bakery and Cafe in Philadelphia yesterday for an afternoon snack. We loved the vibe of this place and their bakery offerings. My wife got a piece of carrot cake - which she said “was the best carrot cake I have EVER had!”
Closed ten minutes early...annoying
On Monday, February 3 at 2:20 you had two staff members short hair blonde one and all black kind of purpleish hair that sign out at 2:15 that the kitchen is closed and they only toasting bagels and then when asked for a toasted bagel, they said they have none then they switch their mind and they said they have a bagel, but they won’t toast itthese employees should they were more interested in being on their phones and smoking outside than providing to the customers I will never come back to this place with this kind of customer service. Please check your camera and have better management on your employees.

Charging a premium for your product and then forcing your customers to use the crappiest coffee dispenser imaginable is an interesting choice. I had to pump that thing like I was giving it CPR - very awkward especially when dispensing more than one cup.
Bagel had a good flavor and was pleasantly crispy with an average coverage of cream cheese.
2 bagels with cream cheese and 2 small coffees was over $15. Then I was asked to give a tip starting at 15% on a tiny little screen.
Will probably never go here again, the place feels like they are taxing people for the cozy vibe they offer. Plenty of other nearby options that aren't as over priced. I saw they are asking over $15 for their breakfast sandwiches ? Diabolical
Great coffee!! I stopped today for cappuccino it was awesome.
I will come back again for a breakfast.

Rude cashier. New in town and was my first time in. Very bummed! Be kind to people. You never know what they’re going through. Luckily I was able to calmly walk away with my friend who was also shocked at the attitude problem - but if it happens again I will be loudly speaking up for myself. Honestly I don’t know if I feel comfortable even coming back here again. I hope the business does well though because we need lgbt friendly spaces to thrive. Take care.

5-star review from 2017: Their made to order breakfast sandwiches are the best in the neighborhood! Good lattes.
Update for 2024: I hadn't been here in a long time, and I want to support this place... but I just paid more than $6 for one croissant and it is less good than a croissant from Paris Baguette. ?
Ordered for pickup, got the Wharton on focaccia which was fine and the dragon on whatever it comes on, which turned out to be near rock hard 2 week old baguette. Pretty much just ate the sandwich without the bread.
When picking up, the girl at the counter just grunted, didn't even say a word.
For 15 bucks a sandwich with minimal ingredients they better hit the spot...far from it.
Better and more fresh options around.
