The Perelman Building, an integral part of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, stands as a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage. Originally constructed in 1927 as the Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Company Building, this architectural gem was transformed into an annex for the museum, housing exhibition galleries, offices, conservation labs, and the museum’s library. The building’s Art Deco design is accentuated by cathedral-like entrances, adorned with sculptures and gilding that symbolize the virtues of insurance, such as wisdom and protection. Located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Fairmount Avenue, it faces the museum’s main building across Kelly Drive, adding a significant 2,000 square feet of gallery space dedicated to modern and contemporary design, prints, drawings, photographs, costumes, and textiles. The Perelman Building is not just a space for art; it is a historical landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and a beacon of preservation and innovation in Philadelphia’s art scene.

Lots of energy!

I am disgusted at how the PMA treats their employees. After the news about Josh Helmer harassing women and another manager actually hitting an employee, the PMA management and board have made it clear they protect their own and find the remaining workers disposable. Now they have turned off all social media comments. Shame on PMA and shame on the elitist management who treat the staff as nothing more than "the help"!

Organized, clean, friendly staff. Parking is a few blocks away, but they did have a shuttle.

I had a great time there recently. It is a very small sister to the larger museum across the way. I saw an exhibit about art as fashion and it was fabulous. I just became a member so I had to go back to the main building to get that active which honestly was no problem and I should have known that was the case to begin with. The Perelemen is a gorgeous building with an outdoor feel indoors because of it being galleries stitched together with glass. It was I believe the second time I had ever been there and I grew to love it even more. It is perfect for one who gets overwhelmed by the scale of a larger museum. It was a nice afternoon and not a long and growing tedious day.
