Great coffees
Amazing tea, vibes are perfect, sweetest staff!!! Great prices!
As a loyal customer, seeing this restaurant on Public Square was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!
Very quaint. House coffee wasn't all that good, muffin was very good and service was fairly good.
Was really excited to try this spot and went on my birthday. Right away the male manager was rushing the younger staff to set tables and proceeded to yell at them in front of customers saying things like “I already told you how to do this. You need to listen to me. I’m not going to repeat myself” or “Did I say you can stop doing the dishes? Why don’t you know how to listen”. He was so hostile and the younger staff seemed scared. I wanted to say something or leave but we already had our food and was scared myself so didn’t want to escalate things. This was 100% the worst experience I’ve ever had dining somewhere. On top of that, the prices were also insane.
not a fan super crowded and underwhelming selection
I stopped in for a to go coffee. There was a guy in his mid 20-30s behind the counter who took my order. The whole time, he was berating the younger guy who was behind the counter with him. I just assumed he was just a bad day but then I just randomly learned on reddit that this is a daily event and he’s also horrible to his mother that works there. This is disgusting behavior. Do better.
Siphon coffee was great . Service was exceptional
I came here from a tik tok saying how good this place was. They showed a video of the siphon coffee, one of the few places in Philadelphia that uses this method. I was super excited to try it but PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Whoever the guy is that works the front had no hospitality. I ordered an iced latte - he made it by pulling out an unlabeled storage container of pre-made coffee (could have been drip coffee, could have espresso, who knows?!) and mixing it with milk and ice. If im paying $10 for a drink, it should at least be freshly brewed. Regardless, the coffee was terrible. It tasted stale yet burnt. I didn’t even finish it. Don’t listen to the hype, I wouldn’t recommend this place - there are much better/cheaper places to get coffee in Chinatown.
$28 for a bowl of beef noodles that claims to be marinated for three days? This place needs a serious reality check. The noodles were lukewarm at best—not even hot. An older lady brought them out and mentioned they were made fresh daily, along with the veggies and hot sauce. That’s great and all, but at this price point, everything better be top-notch.
You’re charging $28 a bowl, yet serving only four thin slices of beef and some average third party noodles? The quality just doesn’t match the price. This should be $15 max, if that. It’s like they think they’re some Michelin 5-star restaurant—newsflash, you’re not.
And don’t get me started on the $10 matcha latte. Yes, it says it’s imported from Japan—where else would it come from? That’s the bare minimum for authenticity, not a reason to charge luxury prices.
The interior is outdated, with furniture that looks like it’s been there since the ‘90s—and not in a nostalgic or charming way. No vibe, no atmosphere, nothing to justify these inflated prices.
Just because the business started in the 1990s doesn’t mean it’s earned the right to overcharge. Riding on the success of the first generation doesn’t guarantee quality today. We’ve got taste buds too—we can tell when something is not worth what you’re asking. All the marketing talk in the world won’t change that.

This place is delusional putting up such ridiculous price points. The shop is so cramped, foods and drinks are very average. The whole ambiance is just so weird and poorly put together. Yet they sell the beef noodle for $28? The portions are just as ridiculous
I walked to Matcha Maiko and they were closed so I decided to patronize this place. Lady behind the register did not greet me and seemed to be in a bad mood. Place is cluttered and unwelcoming. I like to try family businesses that are not well known but this wasn’t it. Didn’t end up drinking my drink, was scared of it for sanitation reasons.
Weird environment
I’m not sure how this place got so many high reviews. I really wanted to like this place but the atmosphere was anxiety inducing and downright hostile. One of the workers was verbally abusing some of their fellow staff. We could hear and see this worker yelling, cursing, and throwing stuff all while we were trying to eat. I felt physically ill to my stomach and was a bit scared to leave. There’s also signs everywhere saying no cellphones which I found really bizarre. All the other staff were walking on eggshells and it was truly sad. I understand that a restaurant can be a very stressful place to work, but the yelling and cursing in front of patrons was totally uncalled for and ruined our experience.
i absolutely loved this little spot. lovely, chill atmosphere. the woman who served me was very sweet, telling me how everything was hand made in house as she served it to me. you can tell she is proud of this place and she truly should be. i got the Colombian blend siphon coffee and the pork & leek dumplings. the presentation was beautiful. the coffee flavor was rich with many complex layers and the dumplings and sauce was so fresh and flavorful. there was a gentleman in the corner hand making the dumplings right there which was fun to watch, plus i loved seeing how truly fresh the food is. it was a relaxing environment to read my book and enjoy my lunch. please go support this special family owned business that clearly puts a lot of labor and love into their food & drink.
thank you for a lovely experience:)
