A decent bar in a fantastic location. We came here when we had some time to kill in downtown Philly. Our drinks were good and not terribly expensive, but we found ourselves wishing for more bar food-type appetizers... truffle fries, or something else to eat casually as a pre-dinner treat. Everything on the food menu was pretty heavy, or had meat in it, which we don't eat. We were also a little confused by the decor which seemed half-speakeasy, half-mod/glam. But, for good cocktails at a good price, we'd 100% come back!

We'd been there before the name change from "6 Feet Under" and we still enjoyed the speakeasy feel of the brick lined underground bar. Erin, our charming bartender whipped up some killer cocktails to ease our jet lag, so very enjoyable.

A group and I went for restaurant week around lunch and overall the meal was excellent. However, staff tended to be slightly rude to us. I got the French onion soup (good), pork sandwich (great) and raspberry lemon crunch (okay). I would definitely go back, just hoping the wait staff would be more friendly and knowledgeable. The way they treated us really tampered with the experience

Great place. First time for my wife and I here for the Restaurant Week Special. Had an early reservation. 5:00pm, so at 4:45 the place was empty except for two or three folks at bar for happy hour. The setting is really cool, celler like, brick arches, separate little rooms. The bartender was very nice, and our server Salamone was very attentive and friendly. Food was great. We'll be back. I surprised that it wasn't more crowded. Hidden gem.

Came here to sample the restaurant week lunch special and was amazed by everything! I got the French Onion Soup, the house burger, and the creme brulee. The soup was one of the best french onion soups I've ever had, with a thick layer of melted cheese on top! The burger was cooked perfectly, and the creme brulee was amazing as well. Our server was very nice and attentive. Definitely a great find!

A very nice surprise! We were out with our infant son and we're looking for a quiet place to get a drink and some food. Their cocktails were excellent but the food was really the impressive part. We had the grilled octopus, which is incredible, as well as the Brussels sprouts to start. These were melt in your mouth good. I then had the French dip and my wife had one of the salads. The French dip is made with chunks of short rib. Very tasty. As you can tell we ordered a bit too much food. The servings are a good size and not terribly expensive. Great restaurant!

Love coming to this place with two of my favorite bartender / servers Erin and Dom. Everything they recommended to me is always fantastic . I really can't say enough about the drinks they make me I usually just say pour me something special and I leave happy ! there service is fantastic and I'm usually amazed by how attentive they are even when it's busy . Last time I was there Brian the manager was gracious and enjoyed my company and told me to come back for happy hour sometime . The food is amazing the chef is super creative I loved the Spanish octopus I had last time . Something is always changing on the menu I hope that next time will be another good experience . If your a laid back person like me it's a perfect spot I hope that you take time out of your day to come here

This place is actually where six feet below pub used to be. Huh! I came here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch with bae. I'm so hopelessly indecisive that it takes about 30 minutes to peruse yelp and analyze every single brunch listing on yelp before making a decision. This one had alcohol, good reviews, and was less of a danger in regards to a potential wait-time situation because life is short and free time is scarce in my line of work. This place is also on opentable if you, like me, hate to wait. Luckily there was literally one or two other tables occupied and so I was almost embarrassed I made a reservation for 12:15 on a Sunday aka prime brunch hour. We were seated in one of the booths and provided menus immediately. There's a bunch of beers on tap and cocktails on the actual drink menu but the brunch menu itself has some brunch beverages. Some of them actually tickled my fancy and would have definitely been viable options if I wasn't doing the low carb thing. I won't use the word "keto" here in the interest of having people continue to read this. They have both an Old Bay bloody mary with grey goose and old bay for $12 and a house bloody mary with just well vodka I guess and no old bay for $5. I am definitely in the any-condiment or old bay fan club for sure but not for $7 more dollars... I went with the house bloody mary and frankly it was so repulsive to me I couldn't even finish it. There was no spice, just the blatant taste of tomato juice slightly diluted by vodka. It actually made me a touch nauseous. My fianse (not that I don't nkow how to spell fiance, I'm just emphasizing the new abbreviation I just heard "fee-AHn-s") did find the BMs palatable enough to finish both hers and mine. I am also a MAJOR eggs-for-brunch b**** and the omelette menu was very appealing. They also have multiple vegetarian omelette options instead of just one like most places. I was debating hard between the spinach, tomato, and feta one vs this one that was like chorizo, avocado, cheddar, and chipotle aioli (holy f**** without the chorizo of course but ultimately decided I would feel better about myself and my arteries would feel better about me if I ordered the former. Immediately after ordering the former I regretted it given the fact that I am eating out and should take the opportunity to treat myself. Waitress happened to come over with eating utensils and was super nice about my request to switch my order, she confirmed with the kitchen that my chorizo-less omelette was a possible alteration and I prepared myself for the fat load. Unfortunately the omelette that actually came out was the first omelette I ordered, and not the one I changed my order to. This was somewhat disappointing but the waitress offered to give me another omelette. I figured this must be a sign from the universe and declined. The food was fine, nothing spectacular. My omelette was a little bit thick for my liking but that's personal preference. The real gem of this place is the fact that the service was really extraordinary, despite the omelette mix up. I ordered a vodka diet after the bloody mary was intolerable and the beverage that came out tasted strange to me. I double-checked that it was diet and not regular and the waitress, no joke, literally went to the bartender and received a small glass of diet (probably pepsi) for me to sample to confirm what I received was actually diet. She was very accommodating and did not behave slightly annoyed which she and any other reasonable human being would be. The food and drinks were adequate but the service really blew our experience out of the water.

Sedition is conduct that encourages acts of rebellion against the state. If a failure it is a serious crime; if successful, an act of revolutionary heroism. In times like these that try the souls of patriots, when it is difficult to differentiate between the criminals and the righteous, it is understandable that a subterranean public house would choose "Sedition" as its identity. No doubt the dark bricked, grottoed, underground tavern evokes an epoch when such weighty matters were discussed in hushed tones by serious people. Chose a side or stand aside, but at least here you can do so with quality drinks and kitchen. We stopped in after visiting Penn Med a few blocks away. The basement felt cool in the dim light of reimagined industrial fixtures. We walked through coved rooms until taking a booth rather far from the bar. Yet, the friendly bartender found us with menus in hand. There were good beer choices, but having to return to see the medical staff after lunch, our libations were strictly water. We ordered the Philbano and Beer Braised Brisket sandwiches, and settled in. Both were very good, as were the accompanying fries. The "Philly Cubano" was made up of smoked Berkshire pork butt, provolone, peach BBQ sauce and pickled long hots, all stuffed into a fresh Parker House roll. Simply put, it was a great pulled pork sammy. The combination of ingredients played well together and it was fun to identify the flavors as they announced themselves to the tongue. First rate. The brisket was not quite as entertaining, but was tender and slathered in horseradish and coleslaw between the semi spheres of a brioche bun. Satisfying. Both were substantial enough to bring half home. Whether you intend on sedition or will wait the next act out from the sidelines, be sure to enjoy life and stop in to Sedition for drinks and grub before deciding.

We came here after sightseeing. Great drinks on happy hour. Loved the sweet potato fries with honey mustard dressing. Spinach salad was the bomb. We split the Stilton burger. Wow!! What a find.

This place is seriously the best kept secret in town. First of all sedition, you've got to go there for the historical context alone. The speak easy atmosphere adds to the charm and as for the cocktails, I never made it past "The Billionaire." Simply fantastic. Great staff too!

After touring the Independence Hall, Liberty Bell and the US Constitution grouping, a US national heritage site, we decided to let Yelp guide us. A hot new restaurant opened nearby called 'Sedition'. Feeling a bit patriotic, we decided to have dinner and raise a glass to our seditious forefathers who helped secure our freedom. Philadelphia is all about brick buildings. This was no different. You followed the stairs down to an underground bar / restaurant. Pretty cool decor. Continued with mostly brick walls. Using old steam gauges with naked vintage light bulbs and shovel sconces gave it a steampunk feel. They have a decent beer, wine list and the house-made cocktails were delish. GF girl had a tasty Sommersby cider and I had a Cucumber Lemonade which was Hendrick's gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, club soda. Refreshing. So many items on the menu sounded good. We went with the Mushroom polenta. Savory and the polenta was done perfectly. It felt like it melted in your mouth. And the earthy mushrooms was a good foil to the creamy Polenta. Now being from the land of great tacos, I was nicely surprised with these fish tacos. Don't be fooled that they look like stubby fish fingers. They.Are.Not. They are fresh haddock rolled in cornmeal and cooked. Served with this yummy chipotle aioli and avocado, pickled veggies and cabbage. Side of fries came with. Darn tasty! We were pretty full after splitting these two entrees that we passed on dessert. While it was busy, our server was attentive and very nice with suggestions We saw couples, groups and singletons up at the bar. Everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves. There's a TV by the bar. On our side of the restaurant there was one but turned way down so it was not obnoxious. It was refreshing to see people actually talking with one another. There is a larger room off the back for bigger parties. There was also in the middle of the restaurant a see-through yet semi-walled off area for smaller more intimate parties. I noticed that there were Bachelorette reserved signs on what looked like two four tops. What a great way to kick off your evening.

Uber ride to place at 1230am closes at 0200. Said they closed due to no one in the business. Wouldn't even serve water. Call before coming as they may close when they feel like. Comical and false response to my review.

Went for dinner only with my son while on a quick trip to Philadelphia. Excellent food, really great service and was just very impressed for a small bar in the historical part of downtown Philly that could've just taken advantage of the great location and mailed in the rest. Corn and clam chowder was hot, fresh, and tasty. the "Philbano" sandwich was excellent - pork was not dry as can happen with other "wanna-be" cubans, flavor was outstanding! Fries were a perfect complement. Even the pickles fit the meal just right. Service was fast, attentive and worthy of "brotherly love". If I ever find myself in Philly again, I will be back at Sedition Philly Restaurant & Bar!
