First we heard about it from friends, than we watched the Netflix documentary and later we decided to check it out and we were surprised by been hosted by chef Cristina!! No reservations and no waiting line when we got there on a Sunday for lunch.
We had the best experience in a long time and the lamb tacos were amazing. Perfect food, ambience and great service. Price very reasonable.
This celebrated taqueria lives up to its reputation. The tortillas are as delicious as the tender lamb they contain. ¡Buen provecho!
Absolutely delicious tacos! I tried the barbacoa and pancita. Both were great but I was surprised to discover the pancita was my favorite! I ordered and received my food quickly on a Saturday around 11. Lots of seating inside. I loved learning about this place on Chef’s Table and the passion shows in the food!
Super overrated and bland. Come on guys.
Such an incredible story of the Chef Cristina, and the staff makes you feel like you're a guest in their home. Incredibly authentic food and wonderful flavor in every bite. Will absolutely be back again.
perfect
Had the steak tacos and they were Good. To me, the meat lacked flavor. Wife had the steak quesadillas and she felt the same way. The lamb barbacoa was real good. It had good flavor. The amount of meat in every taco is plentiful. Next time we are in Philly, we will definitely be back.
I feel like i must be missing something. The reviews are great for this place and it just seemed okay when we went. The vegan tacos had decent texture and flavor but also nothing amazing. Usually the sauce is my favorite but I don't even remember much of it. They had a bar for toppings which is nice and added a bit of texture as well. The staff seemed friendly and the food was out relatively quickly. The atmosphere itself was nothing special but also not bad. The deals were okay but since we just got back from Mexico we had a squewed perception of how much tacos cost.
I first heard about this spot on Netflix, and her story really touched me. It’s the only restaurant I’ve ever traveled this far just to eat at—and it was worth every minute of the 2-hour drive. They portrayed her as kind and welcoming, and she truly is. I was standing and talking to my friends, who were seated at a separate table, and she stopped what she was doing just to bring me a chair and a table herself.
Our group of nine must have eaten half a lamb. Everything was incredible—from the tortillas to the sauces. The food came out quickly, hot and fresh. The meat was so tender it practically melted. We left nothing behind. The food was so good, we were still talking about it that night while celebrating a bachelor party in Atlantic City.
The next day, without even thinking twice, we took a 2-hour detour back just to eat there again before heading home.
It was even better the second time. Busier, yes, but just as memorable. We didn’t even realize how long we had been waiting until our name was called and we were handed a complimentary taco. The chef, who had been prepping and slicing nonstop, looked up to apologize for the wait. That moment alone said everything about their level of care.
I had been here once before, back in 2018 with my coworkers—and the experience was exactly the same. Heartfelt. Human. Exceptional.
I’ll be back again soon, this time with my wife, who’s been jealous ever since she saw the photos. If you’re thinking about making the trip—stop thinking. Just go.
Lived up to the hype, friends been telling me for years to come to Philly just to try it! Man, that Barbacoa, QUE RICO. Makes sense they're on chefs table! Very friendly staff that are knowledgeable about the history too.

The barbacoa itself is nothing special and quite overpriced ($6 per taco). The tortillas are unique and the side pickled veggies are good.
Like many who came before us, we visited South Philly after watching Chef's Table on Netflix. Our expectations were high and yet, Chef Cristina was able to exceed it. Birria tacos were out of this world.
If you're in town, I highly recommend stopping by for some authentic tacos. They're definitely worth the visit, offering rich flavors that truly capture the essence of traditional cuisine.
