5/5 for the happy hour. walk in seating only at the bar, might not have a table for your group if you aren't early enough (like 5 ish). 5 dollar kirin, a huge bowl of fries, decent buns, suboptimal pajeon and dumplings (too oily and no flavor in the pancake). overall everything is sweet and spicy sauces. really a prime place to grab a cold beer and split some snacks, unsure if id go for the actual food at full cost. $35 pp after tax and tip for a beer and honestly a lot of snacks (fried chicken, fries, buns, pancake, dumplings) split with 1 other person

⭐️4.5 - Amazing food that was incredibly unique! Only reason I can’t give 5 full stars is due to the atmosphere/ambiance.?Absolutely loved the food and wide variety of unique options.?Wonderful service. Restaurant was packed but we felt that the server was still attentive and didn’t rush us.? Get the mystery seltzers!! So fun. Happy hour deals are *okay* - 3⭐️. We realized that not everything on the happy hour menu is actually discounted.?Restaurant needs a better playlist! Or at least louder music. The atmosphere was a bit off. You could too easily hear neighboring conversations.

The atmosphere is great A local corner restaurant. I sat at the bar because there was a wait for tables and I was alone. I had the bi pin bop with spicy pork in stone pot. The flavor was amazing. It probably could serve 2 but I unfortunately ate it all on my own. There were so many great looking menu items. I wish I had someone with me to split item. I'll definitely return.

Unreal. Great happy hour deals. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Recommend the south gate fries, the tacos, the bao buns, you can't go wrong. 10/10 will go again

My absolute favorite neighborhood restaurant. Have loved everything I’ve gotten, especially my fave the spicy pork bibimbap. Drinks are good, staff is so nice. I forgot my leftovers on my table and my waiter ran down the street to give it to me. I owe him my life. Best place ever!!!

Perfect pub/restaurant within a 10 min walk from theater area. Arrived earlier than reservation & was greeted by nicest staff. Our server, John, so helpful with clear explanations of food & sauces. Selections included: Bao Buns: Wow! Delicate & pillowy buns overfilled with tender marinated beef. Could have made an entire meal of these lovelies. Mandoo; Top notch dumplings with perfect amount of ginger & garlic mixed with pork, perfectly cooked. Dolsot Bibimbap ("hot stone pot") Terrific entree filled to brim with wonderful fresh goodness from veggies, crunchy rice on bottom & layers of deliciousness with a fried egg & meat selection on top. SouthGate Fries; Very tasty as they were fried dark & moist inside. Used all the misc sauces on the fries. Yum!Nice selection of draft beer & teas.Too much food for one sitting but lots of grand tastes to take home & share.Very clean restaurant including the bathroom in basement. Watch the steps downstairs.Make reservations.Looking forward to next visit with more friends & family.Bravo SouthGate!

I've been here a few times now. The full price entrees are great, but I was underwhelmed by happy hour options. Beer selection isn't great and the bao bun meat arrived cold (not sure if it was supposed to be). The service is fast and the space is great. If they step up the happy hour and drink options, I'll be thrilled. Overall a solid place

Overpriced gentrifier food. Painfully inauthentic, all of the flavor profiles were mild and had no complexity to them. If you actually like Korean food you won’t find anything good here unfortunately. If you’re gonna do fusion, at least make it taste good. Also, banchan were $7+ EACH instead of being included as they should be, and the flavors of them were SO off.

I've lived in the neighborhood for nearly 4 years and have never came to Southgate until recently. I've been missing out!! As many others have said, the happy hour is amazing and it goes until 7 which is rare. Souju punch is refreshing and tasty. I loved the bao buns (beef specifically) and the burger was delish. Ordered medium rare and came out that way. A place you'll want to make a reservation during any primetime, but despite a packed restaurant we were able to snag two seats at the little side bar.

Amazing food!!! The young bartender made himself sound like a moron in front of some customers, but the service and food are great. Overall definitely worth your time.
