A rather disappointing evening that our extended family had been looking forward to. Service was incredibly slow despite a half empty restaurant. Even getting a glass of wine at the bar (also not full) took 10 minutes after ordering. Server didn't offer any insight into any of the menu. Drinks took about 20 minutes. We received our dinners 1.5 hours after sitting down and we ordered as soon as we were able.

We ordered the arancini, tuna crudo, Bolognese, gnudi, pork, duck, and swordfish. All except the swordfish were flavorful and well-balanced. Unfortunately, portions were very small for the price point and 4 out of 7 main dishes came out cool or cold. The swordfish was overcooked, cold and poorly executed.

It took me three tries to flag down our server just to inform about the temperature issues. No mitigation was offered. Bill for 7 people with only 2 apps, no dessert and just a few people drinking was $530+. We won't be going back, especially for a celebratory dinner.

The cocktail (shadow boxer) was GREAT! We had swordfish and duck entrees. The duck fat was PERFECTLY CRISP. BEST EVER! Portions for price were small. Citrus salad was good, one suggestion is NEVER put mint sprig in a salad, it was camouflaged and biting into it kills the taste buds.the kale aranchini was a great idea, way too salty, the beet puree was also a salt bomb. Desserts were weird, definitely pass on them. The amuse bouche was a nice little surprise. Baby turnips were tasty, but the whitefish spread was a weird pairing. Service was good, maybe a bit overbearing. We would go again, but order more carefully.

Kid-friendliness: This is a grown-up restaurant, people bringing small children should choose a different option.

The restaurant business is not about food. It's about customer service when you don't service your customers, right you're not a good restaurant. I would not recommend this place. Probably will never come here again.

The high rating of this restaurant is apparently due solely to the bar, not the quality of the food or the attitude toward customers. I do not recommend this place if you don’t want to ruin your evening. The chef here doesn't even know the difference between the levels of doneness for meat, despite it being the most expensive dish on the menu. I got my steak raw instead of medium as I requested, and it was tough to chew, indicating low-quality meat. The waiter offered to cook it further, which would have been a great solution, but they served it already sliced, with all the juices leaked out. Also, the manager refused to remove the dish from the bill or even offer a discount. Instead, without asking, she brought us a single dessert to share, serving it as if tossing a bone to a dog. No one even bothered to check if we could eat sweets. The waiters here, when they ask if everything is okay, apparently don’t expect any answer other than enthusiastic praise. Without a doubt, the bread was good, but everything else was very mediocre considering the menu prices. The salad was extremely sour, resembling sauerkraut. Perhaps it was meant to be that way, but even the potatoes served with the beef gravy had a sour taste. It is not about the money but about the attitude toward customers. In decent restaurants, the chef always comes out to speak with guests in situations like this, or the manager offers a reasonable solution for both sides. But in this place, nobody cares about the restaurant’s reputation or the people who dine there.

Food was very over priced and not goodm only had the fired green tomatoes (cut too thick, bad batter, and over fried) and the pickles app. The pickles were really weird, and I've had so many pickled things from Japan to Eastern Europe. These were the worst "pickles" I've ever had.

Space is cute. Service is okay, doing the best they can do no knock on that. Wine events are neat. But honestly very expensive and not worth a trip. I unfortunately won't be back (very big wine and food guy). Other better options in the city that are way more worth it.

Everything was outstanding. Greeted by a welcoming gentleman bartender that made amazing drinks! Then we had appetizers that were delicious, especially the smoked tomatoes on toast. For the entree we had the aged ribeye for two which was cooked to perfection. Finished the night off with a blueberry pie sundae dessert that was excellent. This place is a hidden gem. Will be back.

A bit let down, especially when getting both apps and entrees at the exact same time, even though the waitress said they would be coursed (she said the kitchen was busy?). That was annoying to be honest, you expect better in a place like this. For food we had the liver paté app and thought the consistency was off, tasted good though. I had the duck entree and it was very flavorful. My friend had the branzino and we both thought it was bland. I might be overly critical but I don’t think it lived up to expectations unfortunately.

My friend and I had a lovely dinner at Southwark a couple of weekends ago. Upon walking into the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by the friendly host and bartender. Our server was also incredibly kind and attentive throughout the meal. We shared a warm breads appetizer before moving onto our entrees, which were the roasted lamb shoulder and the duck. We also tried a few different cocktails, which were all pleasing. Desserts were also very good, though the exact names of the dishes escape me. Despite the higher price point, I would say that the excellent service and atmosphere at Southwark make it a perfect spot for an intimate dinner or gathering place for friends.

How is this place not talked about more?? It was AMAZING! My friend & I visit many good restaurants, and this was at the top - if not THE TOP - of our favorites list. The atmosphere is so unique and inviting. Its simple, quaint, cozy. Britane our server was spot on. She was there when needed, but didn't overdo it. She gave great recommendations! Among which was the lamb. It was the most phenomenal lamb I've ever had! Everything was delicious. I can't believe it took me so many years to finally visit, but I will surely be back! Bravo Southwark!!

It has been a while since I was truly surprised by a restaurant and this was a meal I did not see coming.

From the outside, it's a pretty unassuming spot from the outside, sitting next to the sister restaurant Ambra. Admittedly, we would love to try Ambra but the pricepoint for the tasting menu is a bit intimidating so we may ultimately not. When you walk in, it's easy not to realize how big the place actually is. We were seated at a huge table in the back just inside the outdoor seating, which also would have been a nice option.

We were not expecting the complimentary amuse-bouch, so that was a nice touch. We started with the warm breads, which came with a fascinating ricotta spread. Next was the whipped pork confit which at first I thought may be a skosh salty but in the end was reminiscent of a nice spreadable pate (that they were nice enough to give us extra bread for). The salad with trout and chili breadcrumbs also started off on the saltier side, but once you mix things together it ends up very well balanced and quite nice. For mains, we went with the lamb shoulder (my favorite of the two) and the tilefish-the latter was the recommendation of the waitress and we were so thankful it was as we probably wouldn't have chosen it but really enjoyed it.

The real gem of the experience, however, was the service. It's such a homey vibe and not only was the food quick, but the servers were so delightful at every turn. They even folded our napkins every time once of us stood up, which I hadn't seen at many other non-course restaurants. Truly made for a lovely meal.

We needed to kill time and popped into Southwark on a whim to kill an hour before a train pickup. We walked in at 7:00 on a Friday without an reservation and sat outside in the garden/alley space. We didn’t have a ton of time so we ordered the warm breads and then the lamb entree. We were served a savory bite from the kitchen before the bread arrived and it was an absolutely fantastic meal. The dishes were all balanced, savory, and felt special. The staff was attentive yet relaxed- could not have been better!
The environment of the outdoor seating was fantastic- wonderful experience! A lucky find for sure.
