This place has been here a long time. I highly recommend the chicken & gravy. The people who frequent this place are real cool too. You wanna be like them.

Nile Cafe in Germantown offers affordable vegan Soul food with big flavor! The modest interior is lightly decorated and sparsely seated. There were maybe six two-chaired tables. Outdoor seating options are available. Walking in, locals cycled in, ordered, waited, and cycled out constantly. All the food, served in to-go containers, was fantastic. The duck in gravy and the jerk chicken stole the show before we had the dessert. After being impressed, we dug deeper into the menu. The coffee ice cream was super creamy and the cake was moist and decadent. Nile Cafe is special. Although there isn't much on the menu we didn't try, the food was definitely worth a revisit. I might just stop in for dessert when I'm around.

The Nile Cafe packs a serious flavor punch into their soul food. From the jerk seasoning, to the cornbread, to the mashed sweet potatoes, everything is delicious. With generous portions the price is very reasonable. The restaurant is super cute and located in the Germantown area of Philly.

I live in Berks county wish they were closer. The food is always so tasty. I’d be there daily but I hate the drive 😢. Highly recommend, even non vegans would be pleasantly surprised. Thank you

Updating my review after trying more of the food. Everything I had was good (jerk chicken, greens, plantains, beef patties, macacau shake) but the portion sizes for entrees are too small for the price.

I truly don’t know how they make the food taste so rich and delicious. Love the wings, bbq chick’n, plantains, collard greens- all of it. Their baked goods are without a doubt, the best vegan baked goods I’ve ever had. I would rank them among the best of any baked goods I’ve ever had – vegan or not. The blueberry coffee cake is my favorite, but all of their desserts are fabulous. I’ve eaten in a couple times, but usually I do take out. I usually just order a lot of extra food and break it into meals and freeze it.

Everything is always amazing, never a disappointment. You can tell everything is made from scratch, no processed or frozen food. Always a 10/10.

This was my first visit to The Nile Cafe, vegan soul food on Germantown Avenue across from FUMCOG. The atmosphere is bright, clean, and sunny with lots of plants and light colored wood tables. You order at the window and they bring you your food. My Jerk Drumsticks were excellent, along with brown rice and gravy. I appreciated their being served in cute round cardboard containers, rather than plastic. Also, all set to bring home half my lunch for dinner. Be sure to get a drink. The food is SPICY!
Folks from Mt. Airy tend to go north to Chestnut Hill rather than south to Germantown - hence it took me a long time to check out Nile Cafe. I will return!

Vegetarian options: Menu is all vegan! Though the items are described as meat.

Most everything is made with soy but meals and snacks are full flavored and sizable portions.

We dined in here after a hike at the Wissahickon. You order at the counter and they bring it out. Very casual for dining, would be best to do takeout, there's even a small park around the corner (Wick House?) with some tables. Jerk drumsticks were the highlight! All the soy chikn we tried were great-- esp enjoyed the BBQ. Lots of gluten free options which they said were marked Wheat but they changed recipe to not include soy sauce recently!! Reminds me of an actual barbecue with baked bean flavor. Cabbage was great and tasted like turmeric curry. Great plantains! Also enjoyed the collards and okra. Water quality was great, looks like they also sell large purified water jugs. Enjoyed a decadent oatmeal raisin pecan cookie after! Friendly service, and nice to see Black owners and clientele. Only real con was having to eat in plastic. I decided to bring the containers home to not waste them. Updated from previous review on 2024-08-06

Complete, savory yum in every spoonful and bite. Casual, family friendly atmosphere. Ideal for take out. Looking forward to hearing back.

I went with the jerk drumsticks and loved the texture, taste/seasoning. The sides were a nice compliment as well. Really thankful for HappyCow or I likely would not have discovered this place.
