It's a great neighborhood restaurant. Food & service are very good & everyone is welcoming.

Tavern is one of our go-to places for "date night" in the Gayborhood. Whether we sit at the bar (upstairs or downstairs), "just" have burgers or a full meal, we know that it will be a great evening!

My husband and I took our ten year old. We all loved our meals and service was great! We had the fish n chips, chicken tenders, and wedge salad with shrimp. Our server was super friendly and the atmosphere is very cozy.

We love intimate spaces! I'm so glad we came here for Valentine's Day! It's exactly what I was looking for. The food was amazing and Jeff are server made us feel welcomed and comfortable. We went up to the piano bar after dinner thinking we were just going to have one drink, but ended up staying because the pianist that night was lively and engaging. The music he was playing was kind of showtuney and fun. We will definitely be back :)

Good food served in a cozy atmosphere with excellent service. A good value in the Gayborhood.

The new chef, Henry, made an excellent beef Wellington. It was a terrific surprise. Highly recommended. The meat and mushrooms were perfect.

The food here was mediocre at best. The deviled eggs had little flavor, the friend pickles tasted frozen and, most bizarrely of all, my pumpkin cream bucatini pasta had the consistency of paste and tasted as bad. I barely ate half of it. The staff is very friendly and the drinks were good, but my meal was not enjoyable.

Arrived on time for my reservation. very disappointed to find a sign on the door saying the restaurant was closed. Tried again on Tuesday, same situation. Understand that these things happen, but the Tavern should have turned off the ability to make a reservation through Open Table.

A friend turned me on to Tavern because I mentioned liking piano bars. They are so rare, so I was very pleased to share this experience. The atmosphere is lively and sophisticated compared to karaoke. Patrons who choose to sing are entertaining in the same way that going to a live stage performance is entertaining. Johnny mixed some nice drinks for me while I enjoyed the live performances and then I headed downstairs to their restaurant for a wonderful meal. I will definitely return when visiting this area.

Dinner: The restaurant is downstairs, with a separate entrance from the bar upstairs. The food was EXCELLENT. And with John as the bartender and waiter, so was the service! I can only speak for the Shiitake Lo Mein - $18. Pork belly, seared shiitakes, brussel leaves, chili oil which was fantastic. I tasted the french fries that came with my friend's burger, which were really good too. And he liked the burger a LOT. Both dishes were reasonably priced, the atmosphere is nice. There is a bar along one wall (which unfortunately has a big television on the wall), and the dining room is separated from the bar, so is quieter and more dimly lit. I would recommend this place without hesitation. The Piano Bar: Upstairs is the piano bar. Been to this bar a couple of times when visiting Philly. Really enjoyed each visit. If you enjoy a piano bar, this one is really nice. The drinks are good, and when I was there, the piano was wonderful. Terrific piano player, who had a lot of music books for people to choose from if they wanted to exercise their pipes. The player was great, and had a terrific voice and style. A very good song stylist. Drinks are good, and the bartenders attentive and quick. There is a restaurant downstairs (reachable from separate entrance from the street) that was excellent! And if you're lucky enough to have John as your waiter, it's even nicer. I'd highly recommend the Lo Mein dish! Overall, a very fun place to spend an evening!

We had not eaten at Tavern for a few years. We went back last night and do not intend to ever stay away that long again. My wife had the tomato soup which was unbelievable and potatoes in garlic (I believe) which she loved and took the leftovers home. I had a hamburger with lettuce tomato, sauteed onions and the house sauce which was exquisite. Loved the hamburger. We sat and ate at the bar, talked to John the bartender and watched Golden Girls on the tv. Cannot wait to go back.
