It took at least 25 minutes after we were seated to see our sever. The food we ordered was given to us not as described on the menu. Substituting ingredients without our knowledge. Some plates cooked better than others. Very in consistent.
Everything was fine with our dining experience. Parking is an issue. It was an extremely mild fall Sunday and Fairmount Park was busy with runners, hikers, bikers and people out for a Sunday stroll along the Wissahickon Creek. Parking was very difficult. The Inn has some spots that are supposed to be reserved for diners, but they were all taken. Other surrounding spots were also mostly taken. It was a challenge to find a spot. Since you are in a park, your options are limited or non existent.
Valley Green is always a favorite for special occasions or any occasion. It feels as though it used to be our little secret, but the word has been out for some time and now it can be challenging to get a reservation, especially during the beautiful fall months. We sat on the porch in ~60 degree weather, but the heat lamps were out and it was very comfortable. Great service, great value, good food and wonderful environment. Will keep going back as long as it's standing!
They took a while to get us seated even though we had a reservation. The table where they sat us had a tray on one of the chairs which wasn't noticed until someone sat on it. Then they took a very long time for a waiter to approach to our table. They took the order and they came 30 min later to tell us the order got lost in the system and just started to get prepared. When the order came we complained we were missing a salad and 2 of the plates were missing part of the sides. The waiter tried to play fool bc we weren't completely sure what was missing (fruit) and just when we remembered she said, oh yes, we run out of fruit and salad. The salad wasn't charged but the fruit wasn't compensated. Overall very bad service.
The food was outstanding. I had the salmon, rice, sautéed spinach and julienne carrots. The arrangement on the plate was beautiful to look at and each item was perfectly delicious. The rice was a combination of white and wild (I think) with a touch of light lemon sauce. I did not leave a morsel. We finished with the cheese cake which had a homemade crust with ground nuts and a raspberry sauce - fabulous! The porch was warm and cozy and always great for activity watching. Thank you. We will be back.
The venue , service and food were excellent. Plan on returning to try other menu items. Pet friendly on the patio , so if you are hiking the park with a dog , they accommodate the four legged friends. The only minor note , and it's not really a detractor , they were hosting a party or reception with a DJ and we heard both the music and commentary, beautiful fall evening along the creek.
I made the reservation on Open Table which was very easy and a good idea as the restaurant was crowded. My friend and I were seated in a room all by ourselves at first and then just one other table seated after us. We ordered the crab cakes and Brussels sprouts which were superb. Our cocktails were also delicious and I picky about my Manhattans. Our server was Dominic- very friendly and accommodating. All in all a great experience.
A great spot for a late lunch out on the porch. Great food and your in a natural oasis hidden in Philadelphia.
We had a lovely lunch. The food was good, our server was friendly and efficient. However the truck idling in front of the restaurant was a bit disturbing. When I asked the hostess how long the truck would be there she was not very friendly. I understand food and supplies need to be delivered, but is was a legitimate question. (The truck was there for considerably longer than the 10 minutes she quoted.)
Last night, my husband and I went to the place we got married 20 years ago on the day. - Valley Green Inn.
As we walked around and reminisced, it was odd that not much has changed. It was just as beautiful.
On our wedding day, it was 80° and sunny. Last evening it was in the 60s, sunny, and just a picture perfect fall evening. So, we decided to sit on the porch to eat. We enjoyed watching bikers and walkers and pups stroll by.
The staff was incredibly friendly. We even witnessed them help someone inflate their bike tire. There was plenty of seating inside and outside on the porch. Most patrons were inside.
There were a few appetizers we wanted to try, but we settled on the Ricotta Jam Jar. Apparently we were really hungry because we forgot to take a photo of it. The bread came out toasted and warm, and the jam was savory with a sweet aftertaste. We would definitely recommend trying it. For the main course, my hubby got the Filet Mignon Medallions. He let me try some, and it melted in my mouth. I ordered the VGI Scampi. Very garlicky. Just the way I like it!
We were definitely too stuffed for dessert. But next time, I’d like to try the cheesecake.
We definitely recommend the Valley Green Inn for their dinner, and of course, as a wedding venue. Note, that if you are a T-Mobile customer, there is no cell service. I think it’s so tucked away in the Wissahickon Park, the satellites can’t find it.
if you go, let us know how you liked it. #trustkj

Lovely old building with charming ambiance and history nestled among the trees and stream in the park. Food was food, prices reasonable, and will return.
Fresh and delicious food. Service was erratic at best. Took 3 requests to get iced tea. Beautiful location.
The atmosphere took me back in time!

The food was excellent. Michelle, our waitress was excellent and made for a warm and thoroughly enjoyable experience .
Love the atmosphere, especially sitting on the patio. Food was very good and the menu offers many great choices. Only problem was that the kitchen was kind of slow. Page who was our server was very kind and kept us informed. They offered us a glass of Prosecco for my wife's birthday as well as a beautiful birthday dessert with a candle. I'd love to go back, especially with the grandkids for lunch. I hope the pace will pick up as I don't think the kids can tolerate a two hour lunch. We were there at dinner; I had the bronzino and wife had the seafood scampi which were both very tasty along with the Harvest Salad and dessert of chocolate torte and the ricotta cheesecake.
