I have nothing but good things to say about Bar Marco - Pittsburgh and western PA has such a rich heritage of Italian culture and tradition and I thought this place was a great representation of that.

I'll start off by saying my wife and I were 10 minutes late (dang you, Fort Pitt Tunnel), but they seated us, no sweat.

The restaurant itself is cozy and intimate. For example, Luke Wholey's down the street dwarfs this place. However, I felt like they maximized their space well. I am a pretty big dude and my wife is 8 months pregnant and we didn't feel overtly crammed in. Hopefully the diners on either side of us felt the same.

The cocktail list was formidable, but I wimped out and settled for a Peroni. My wife thought her NA cocktail was wonderful. We are basic whitehead bread/arancini people so that was an easy homerun for us.

A real highlight for us was the scallop dish. It's pricy, but the scallops cooked to perfection and the crema, in my opinion, could hold up with some of the James Beard list places I've been too.

We opted for primi, correctly predicting we would not have room for secondi. What followed was a classic user-error by my wife ordering a gnocchi dish with gorgonzola, which she abhors, so I ended up having to trade her my Gnudi. I didn't see the Gnudi on Bar Marco's online menu, but let me tell you, the two bites I had of the Gnudi (before my wife hijacked the rest) is right up there with Pusadee's Roti for favorite bites in the city.

Bar Marco is the first place I remember that is a no gratuity restaurant. Tip of the cap to our server, Michael. He was great. I hope they are taking care of him.

In summation, I hope they keep the Gnudi on the menu so I can get a second crack at it. It was a home run cozy date night spot - definitely a great place to take your girl on a cold, howling February night. We shall return.

Could not say enough great things about this place. My favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh and probably the whole country for that matter. It’s not just a dinner it’s an experience from the moment you walk in the door, to the food on your plate, the wine poured in your glass, and the warm ciao on your way out. The owner has really outdone himself and the staff is like a family. I recommend this place to anyone who tells me they are visiting Pittsburgh. I dream about their ragú, arancini, and montepulciano

Entering the front door with six people, the manager yelled at us to “Close the Door!” Very rude. Only attended an upstairs private function. Appetizers were good. Drinks were good. But the stairway up was very high and there is no elevator. As we left that evening, there was no lighting to walk down the stairs. Some of the folks in attendance were pushing their 80s and had to be escorted slowly down the steps using phone flashlights. I told the staff this was an accident waiting to happen, but he said “Oh, someone just shutoff the switch”. Which I tried at the top, as well as the bottom but no lighting.

We had a baby shower on the upstairs space. It was beautifully laid out a d everyone enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The bathrooms are upstairs too, so it really is a self contained space. Candied bacon was excellent. French toast was also really good. Beet salad was great (and I'm not a fan of beets, but this was rent good). Super friendly staff. And everything, like serving the food, happened unnoticed. Just a great place to hold an event. No stress.

We had the pleasure of having our wedding at Bar Marco’s upstairs event space, Union Hall. Shelby and her team are like a well-oiled machine- our day ran so smoothly and they made sure everything was taken care of so we could truly enjoy the whole day with our guests. The service was impeccable and our family and friends couldn’t stop raving about the food- some of them have even made reservations since our wedding to eat at the restaurant! We will now forever be regular patrons at Bar Marco and cannot thank them enough for making our wedding day truly the best day of our lives.

We had our wedding reception at Bar Marco and it was perfect. Shelby made the planning process so easy, and the staff went above and beyond on the day of. The food was incredible and our guests are still raving about it. The service was warm and seamless, and the space created the exact atmosphere we wanted: intimate, fun, and special. We could not have imagined a better place to celebrate.

I went a couple weeks ago with my family and we had a great time with great service and the food was absolutely amazing, so I booked a reservation to come back with my girlfriend to show her the amazing food. Unfortunately we walked in and they sat us at the bar without even checking our ages (we're both 18). They asked if we were 21 and of course we said no, so they said we couldn't sit at the bar and had no open tables for us. I did not book the bar, I just booked a reservation to sit and eat and instead we were asked to leave. I found it very disappointing that they did not have a place for us to sit, especially after sitting us down and giving us menus and waters. This was a really frustrating experience and I don't recommend for anyone younger than 21

It's not just the wine that impresses here, I've had some of the most memorable meals here. In a town full of good pasta this is one to be reckoned with.
