Dish Osteria Bar 128 S 17th St, Pittsburgh Italian • $$$
128 S 17th St, Pittsburgh

“Beyond being some of the (if not the sole) best Italian food I have ever had, what stands out most about Dish Osteria is their commitment to true hospitality; we arrived early to have drinks at the bar, and from the start we were treated with care and true personal interest. The bartender was so insightful and walked us through the menu, answering any questions we might have so that we could order our dinner with ease (it was last Wednesday at 8PM— I forget his name, but please give him his flowers. He was amazing!). I had the Little Bird bourbon cocktail and absolutely loved it. This level of care continued as we moved to our table for dinner. Our waiter and host went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our meal, refreshing our bread without us having to ask (that homemade focaccia was dangerous— we couldn’t stop eating it!), suggesting wine pairings, and also allowing us to taste two options when we couldn’t choose. Every single dish we ordered was phenomenally crafted and delicious ; we ordered the Gamberi shrimp and grilled artichoke salad to start, followed by the short rib ragu gnocchi and rigatoni with smoked scamorza for our entrees (I will dream about both of these dishes for some time). For dessert, we had the lemon cello cheesecake, which was perfectly balanced with sweet and tangy flavors. Our waiter also provided us with a complimentary glass of moscato with our dessert. This was a phenomenal first experience at this restaurant and I cannot wait to come back. I’m also gifting a visit here to some of my friends for their anniversary and can’t wait for them to try it as well!”

Alla Famiglia 804 E Warrington Ave, Pittsburgh Italian • $$$$

“Wendy the waitress was amazing. She did a fantastic job and was always there to serve our needs. The pasta on the menu was amazing as was all the sides we had. The only down side was that I wanted a Bolognaise pasta and Wendy told me that it was not on the menu, but they could make up a batch for me. First off, unlike the other pasta's on the menu that were amazing, the Bolognaise dish that the chef threw together for me was mediocre at best. Not to mention, I was charged $46 for the sauce and $3 for the noodles? For a plate of pasta that was not good at all. When all of the other dishes offered much more of a delicious pasta at half the cost. Long story short, don't order off the menu and you will enjoy this very much.”

“Looking for that truly special restaurant? Spork in Garfield is it! I can't stop thinking about our experience at this chef-led restaurant. This isn't just a restaurant, it's a culinary experience. What sets this place apart is the farm to table ingredients and truly special preparations; which creates dishes that are so dynamic and interesting. The team works with small producers, grows some of their own produce + herbs, and mills their own grain for house made bread. My favorite sip was the "So Long Frankie Louise" cocktail and my favorite bite was the homemade bread roll. When you get a reservation here expect out of this world food & service plus:- Truly great alcohol free options including mocktails, zero proof beer & wine Surprise bites throughout your meal.- Lots of choice & small plates - great for the table to try a little of a variety of dishes.- This is such a unique spot to book for that special occasion.Definitely go hungry and be prepared to be well nourished!”

“There's a lot of things to love about fig & ash; it's got a fun atmosphere, great service, and good food. The attentiveness of the staff was particularly a highlight -- different dishes and utensils for each part of the meal showed an attentiveness to the experience. The food is inventive on simple themes, which we loved (but also felt like it didn't hit on some things).Overall, it was a great experience, but I think for what it was, the price is just a little too high (and thus the 4 stars instead of 5). Specifically, some of the food pairings were a little off, and the environment is a bit cluttered. Nothing bad for a slightly less expensive restaurant, but at this price point it's a 4/5 for me.”

Very nice decor and ambiance. A charge to be seated at a table near the stage, which is perfect for date night or something more cozy. Though a bit tight, the clientele fit the atmosphere, so it doesn't feel as tight. For more solo nights, still a comfortable scene. Cooked perfectly, not overseasoned. Could argue slightly underseasoned, but would take away from the hot Honey. Great pairing. The Hushpuppies were overcooked, so I can't really judge how good they were. The Comback sauce saved them, that sauce is on point, wished the hushpuppies weren't overcooked. The biscuits were also somewhat overdone. I feel that the Blackberry jam was a tad too tart. I didn't taste the honey in the honey butter. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good, either. I am encouraged with the potential, though. I will give them another shot.”

“Such a nice little spot for wine & cocktails! My friend and I stopped by on a Saturday evening and we were seated immediately. I tried the giggle water cocktail, which had gin, lemon, pear, cardamom, and prosecco. I really enjoyed it and found it to be the perfect balance of sweet and bubbly. They also serve food and some desserts but we did not try them this time. Pro tip: there are also a few parking spots across the street in a small lot reserved specifically for customers of allegheny wine mixer if you are having trouble finding parking on butler street. Overall a great spot for drinks in Lawrenceville!”

“Gordo's is great! Let me preface this review by saying I love Nashville Hot Chicken but outside of Nashville, TN is has been difficult to find a "hot" chicken that compares to what I've had in Tennessee. Some other places around the Burgh have Nashville Hot Chicken but the spice combinations don't work. At Gordo's the Nashville Hot Chicken Taco is so good with a perfect spice blend. It tastes like hot chicken tacos that I had at Pie Town Tacos in Nashville. Gordo's is the place in Pittsburgh to satisfy your hot chicken craving. Not to mention, their other menu items are delicious too. And they have great margs. My second favorite menu item is the Churoli- A churro and cannoli hybrid that rocks!”

“Pasha was a really wonderful, cozy Mediterranean restaurant that I will absolutely be coming back to! The lamb was amazing, I haven't had lamb this good since I was in Greece. The falafel, while I was surprised to only get 5, were dense and filling. My partner and I split the lamb platter and it was a really good amount of food for the both of us. The decor is really cozy and cute, it makes you feel like you're at home, very classic to Shadyside. Do not leave without getting the baklava, it was divine.”

“What a charming little place. My friend and I dined here for a little “girls’ night out”, and I’m so thankful that we did. Our server, Kelsey, made us feel so welcome from the moment we sat down. The atmosphere is cozy, bright, and inviting. Both of us got seafood pasta dishes, and I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing so I could have leftovers! The tiramisu was delicious…and a very hefty portion size of it, too. We split a bottle of wine from their shop next door, and Kelsey brought it to our take for us so we didn’t have to move. Generous portion sizes, excellent food quality, and a very reasonable price point. The service was excellent. I can’t say enough good things about this place. There are a lot of good Italian restaurants in Pittsburgh, but this is one of my favorites already! Can’t wait to go back.”

It added a nice ambiance while sitting at the bar and whatever's playing is a good conversation starter with the bartenders who are really friendly and helpful. I felt the tap list is super IPA heavy, which I'm not as into anymore personally. But if you are, you'll love it! I tried a blonde ale and the rainbow sherbet sour (which legit tasted like melted rainbow sherbet). They were both good. I look forward to checking out this space again in the summer.
