“Inside this unassuming storefront in Westview is some of the best Southeast Asian food in Pittsburgh. Lovingly and expertly made by a Myanmarese family, the food is fresh, authentic, and delicious. Go for the salads (pickled tea leaf salad, pickled ginger salad, fresh tofu salad, crispy yellow tofu salad, samosa thoke), the soups, the curries (pickled mango pork), and the noodle dishes.Tip: if you can, eat in instead of getting takeout—the salads especially are at their absolute best when they are freshly made. (The crispy and crunchy components tend to sog out a little otherwise.)“

“I had a really good experience here and would recommend to others. The service when I visited was particularly noteworthy. Despite being incredibly busy with just one waitress, she was incredible! She was remarkably efficient and seemed to have attended all tables with no problems. My table had no issues with our orders and was able to frequently check-in with us, along with putting a matchbook under our table when we didn't even mention it to her. As for the food, it was exceptional. I tried the duck noodles, a rare find from my experience with Thai restaurants, and it did not disappoint. The portion size was generous enough for me to take almost half of it home. I chose a spice level of 7, and it really had quite a kick. It left me visibly sweating which was actually quite funny for everyone at my table. I think the food and service really delivered here. I would return here should I be given the chance.“

The portions were decently prepared and accompanied with a dose of sticky Chinese Rice. The order took a little longer to prepare than estimated and came to about $16 or so. Service was prompt to my presence and apologetic to the wait. Overall, recommended.“

“A foodie’s go-to for street food and takeaway???. This food stand has a real potential to be a phenomenally excellent. No this is NOT A RESTAURANT BUT A FOOD STAND on Pittsburgh’s Strip District. It serves four items: 1) Egg Rolls, 2) Chicken Skewers, 3) Rice noodles, 4) Fried Rice.It has excellent egg rolls, especially the vegetable and chicken rolls???. The rolls are very thickly packed… Flavorful but they taste even better with Hot Chili Oil.The Chicken Skewers are very flavorful. They are NOT KABABS but simple bamboo stick skewers of thin chicken breast strips. They are very well seasoned???… the sauced version actually destroys the natural flavor .There are 2 noodles, both are rice noodles. The one they call “Rice” Noodles are flavorful, with some meat and vegetables mixed in it… This noodle can even be better with more chicken and vegetables. The one they call Pad Thai is NOT true pad Thai. It’s plain flat rice noodles stirred in some soy sauce. ???.DISCOVERY: the otherwise unremarkable flat noodles they call Pad Thai can be rescued by Chicken Skewers in BBQ Sauce with STIRRED IN CHILI OIL and paired with a claret. There’s Fried Rice as well but I can’t recommend. They look very plain.Service is very good.Prices are very inexpensive.Vegetarian options: Vegetable egg rolls indicated.Dietary restrictions: Very limited vegetarian optionsParking: Street parking is tough to find especially in the weekends.Kid-friendliness: Child customers with their parents are commonWheelchair accessibility: This food pop-up stand is on a street alley that is wheelchair accessible.“

Lucy’s Banh Mi Asian • $$

“My friend and I went here on a whim this last Sunday around noon. I had never gotten food from here before but had heard really good things about her banh mi. There was no one waiting when we came up and we were able to place our order right away. We each got a banh mi and it was $8 each. They only take cash. They had a table available if you wanted to eat your food there which I would've done if we got pho. The banh mi itself was flavorful but not what I was expecting (I was expecting the traditional banh mi with pate and all the usual instead of just the roast pork). I thought the pickled vegetables that came with it were delicious and really balanced out the pork well.“

The chicken sandwich was very tasty and easy to eat (not messy if you care about that sort of thing.) I also got the pork bao, which was very tasty. However, 5 dollars seems a little much for just 1, in my opinion. I got takeout but I feel like this is a nice spot to sit and eat, especially since the playlist they had was good. “I recently had the pleasure of dining at Shaka and I must say, it was an amazing experience. The atmosphere was fun and the staff were friendly and attentive. But what really impressed me was the food. We ordered the Trio Poke and the Asian Fries, and both dishes were amazing. The Poke was incredibly fresh and flavorful, with a perfect balance of ingredients (smoked salmon, spicy tuna, and tempura shrimp). The Asian Fries were delightfully crispy and seasoned to perfection, with just the right amount of spice. The quality of the ingredients used in each dish was evident, and the presentation was visually stunning. It was clear that great care was taken in preparing each dish. Overall, I highly recommend Shaka Restaurant to anyone looking for fresh, delicious food. The Trio Poke and Asian Fries are must-tries!“

The online ordering page is easy to navigate, and my takeout orders are always packaged well enough to handle the drive home. I highly recommend the fresh rolls (shrimp or tofu) as well as the tom yum soup and som tom salad. All the typical stir fries, curries, and noodle dishes are also delicious, but there are too many good options to list here. I especially like the option to order just about any dish with extra vegetables. I can't recommend this place enough for anyone looking to get their Thai fix in Pittsburgh.“
