Posted my review on DoorDash too but super good sushi. I got the salmon roll, spicy salmon roll and yam tempura roll all with gyoza. Everything was so delicious but tempura roll took me by surprise and is delicious. Love and will be trying more.

i wish i could give this a better review since the service was on par, but the food and atmosphere was just awful. The rice was stale and the the pork belly was warm at best. My wife’s food was the same.
Check out one of the vietnamese places around there if you’re in the mood for asian cuisine, otherwise avoid this place by all means.

Nicely update interior with the best sushi and nicest staff. Recently read Yelp rated it in top 100 sushi places in US. So lucky to have this in our neighborhood. Freshest sushi & sashimi, beautifully displayed. Next time I will try a hot pot or bbq. Take advantage of this gem.

We had the small sukiyaki special which was generous even split among 3, and it was one of the best things I’ve eaten in Pittsburgh. They bring out a cast iron pot over a burner, heaped full of veggies, mushrooms, and flavorful tofu. The broth is incredibly flavorful and gets more and more flavorful with every addition of meat. The servers were incredibly attentive and very sweet. Great for vegetarian and gluten free folks too as the meat and udon noodles are kept to the side and added separately

Dietary restrictions: The meat and udon can be put on the side - they have many gluten free and veggie friendly dishes

The sukiyaki (Japanese hot pot) was incredible — the broth flavor was rich and became richer as we added more veggies and meat. The serving size for the small pot is also SO MUCH food. The service was attentive and thoughtful. I can’t wait to return. Went with six (lovely beautiful) friends, ordered two small pots, and we left very full.

Special Recommendation for veggie and gluten free folks.

This is my 4th time here and I cannot sing diners 2+1 enough praise!! Their whole menu is golden, but the sukiyaki is truly the winning item for me personally. The broth is savory and rich, not too salty and never bland, and their portion is fantastic. The small sukiyaki can easily feed 3 people; 2 small can feed 6-7 people. The service is top notch; the staff is consistently attentive every time we visit. Brought our friends here and they all loved it too. Seriously y'all, get on their sukiyaki. You're missing out if you don't try it at least once lol.

Dietary restrictions: Good for vegetarian and gluten-free eaters.

This is a GREAT place and our to-go Japanese restaurant spot. My favorite is their sukiyaki -- highly recommended, so affordable. A small hot pot is only $63 and enough food for at least 3 people. They even threw in some Wagyu beef for us! The servers are also super attentive; they helped us cook all the hot pot.

Casual Japanese place with fast and friendly service and reasonable prices. We had their sushi. We eat Kosher-style and they were great about coming up with a sushi boat we could eat, even though it was complicated and required a lot of substitutions. My only criticism is they did not have wine glasses for BYOB.

Having a dinner at Diners 2+1 was a disappointing experience. First of all, the space - it looks like a cheap diner with no warmth or comfort to it. No efforts have been put into making it look like an inviting place. There are two counters in the room - both looks like they've been salvaged from some closing non-food store. One of them - looking pretty much abandoned and unused but still for some reason standing there. The second one holds supplies like napkins and utensils - isn't looking pretty either. There are also two refrigerators in the dining room making fairly loud noises.
One of the waiters was wearing what looked like swimming trunks. For heave's sake! Couldn't he wear something decent?
I was underwhelmed by special sushi rolls. They were not seasoned enough and there was too little sauce added. And you can forget about such "luxuries" as tobiko or even sesame seeds - the owners cut all the corners they can. Also the waitress brought us the low sodium soy sauce without asking, and I didn't realize until I dipped sushi into it and ate it. And after she brought us our food she didn't come to our table again until she decided it was the time to bring us our bill.
In summary, I will not be coming back to this place.

Def the go to for sushi in sq hill. Rice/protein level is spot on. Service is quick (but we only do take out), chirashi bowl is always excellent fresh fish and we've ordered so many times we've had both positive food and a couple of negative food experiences. The one time we had a negative experience was when we ordered avocado and cali rolls for our kids and the avo was all brown and speckled. They were super apologetic and refunded our money; that's why we keep going back - they corrected the error and continue to have high standards on food. We haven't had that issue again and it def occurred in 2023. Other sushi places use way to much rice or are overpriced. Look no further for best sushi in sq hill.

Vegetarian options: many veggie options for sushi! i love the mushroom avocado roll!

My go to sushi spot in Squirrel Hill. :) I've dined in and gotten take out for the last two or three years! I love trying new things on the menu. Current faves are the spicy tuna, Benny roll, and the pretty roll (in pics). Very sweet staff and great sushi.
