We were underwhelmed by the chef's sushi plate. Of the five pieces, one was delicious, one was quite good and three were nothing special. At $52 for the plate, all five should have been delicious. We also had some hand rolls. The mushroom is a standout. We felt like we were being a bit rushed - like asking about dessert while we still had dinner in front of us. But it was an above average experience and we'll definitely give it another go!
The food and ambience was excellent. Service was slow and price for quality/portion size far too high.
Overall experience was good.
Started with the beef tataki - would not recommend. The night market sauce, whatever that is…was giving Mr. Yoshida teriyaki, but way too salty. It overpowered the beef and there was no way to cleanse your palate between bites nor to avoid the sauce.
Red crab hand roll could have used more crab and less mayo.
It got so much better though, seafood was very fresh. The best bites of the night were the hamachi sashimi - very clean tasting, just fatty enough…I could have a couple more servings of those. Botan ebi nigiri was slightly buttery and so delicious. The snow crab also so so good.
I also had the toro hand roll, the bluefin toro and scallops sashimi.
Service was great, and it was a cozy, cute place. I felt that it was casual and not too pretentious.

I only had a cocktail and some hand rolls but they were excellent. I’ll be back to try more.
Louder than usual near the end of our dinner, but that wasn't an issue. We could still (mostly) hear each other talk. The service and food were exceptional, as always. Gi-Jin remains my favorite Pittsburgh restaurant for a reason.
This is a best in class restaurant. I have been there multiple times and it does not disappoint. It is pricey but you get what you pay for.
The vodka martini with Haku Vodka was outstanding. The sushi was very fresh. I had the nigiri and loved it. Top-notch food and drinks. Great selection of Japanese whiskeys. Highly recommend.

This restaurant serves the best sushi in Pittsburgh! Fish is flown in fresh from Japan daily and you can tell by how amazing the flavor is!
This was an amazing sushi restaurant. The fish was incredibly fresh and tender. Highly recommend the Nigiri Tokubetsu and the Sashimi Plate. The highball cocktails were delicious and refreshing. Great place for a date.
We had a wonderful meal at Gi-Jin. The food and drinks were amazing and our service was excellent. Cannot wait to return.

Good was excellent, sushi was extremely fresh and very flavorful. We had several dishes and all very creative and expertly presented. Service was welcoming and friendly, going above and beyond to accommodate customers. We will definitely return.
Fantastic experience! Food was excellent and our bartender was amazing. Very attentive and explained each dish and even made recommendations based on things we ordered. We loved it!
Gi-Jin was a really cute experience. The interior design, lighting, and overall vibes are beautiful and definitely make it feel like a special occasion spot. We tried the bara chirashi, beef tataki, some hand rolls, and the matcha misu dessert; everything was pretty good, not mind-blowing in taste but decent, with gorgeous presentation. Portions are on the smaller side for the price, but the Orenji Valley cocktail was a standout & super refreshing. The only disappointment was the matcha misu, which came in a takeout-style paper box instead of a glass and tasted a little stale, like it might have been kept in the fridge. That said, the staff were super friendly and chill, and overall I’d say it’s a pricier but fun spot I’d go back to for the atmosphere and special occasions.

Based on the reviews, we were expecting Gi Jin to be the best restaurant in Pittsburgh, but were let down. We dined here for my fiancés birthday. The food was good, and fish high quality, but despite ordering 5 different items, we were left unsatisfied, as the portions were quite small (for the price). The service was also not up to par, our food took a very long time. The overall ambiance was very loud. Another thing which left a bad taste in my mouth was the toilet in the ladies room was clogged, and despite customers complaining nothing was done... not what you'd expect when paying $200+ for a meal. There are so many other better Japanese restaurants in Pittsburgh that deserve the spotlight.
Great service and creative cuisine. $3.00 charge added to the bill for”infrastructure” is outrageous.
