The restaurant side of Golden Gai has finally opened, and it didn’t disappoint! Their takeout sushi was hit or miss (it got markedly better over time) but they clearly took the time to fine-tune the restaurant before opening, and I’m glad they did. The sushi (the golden roll) and small plates (spicy cucumbers, grilled chicken, and miso cod) were phenomenal. The drinks were on point also. Reservations are hard to come by, but if you’re okay with booking a few weeks out or eating a little later it’s not too hard to get one.

One of the chefs had an MF DOOM tattoo and I wanted to say “your tattoo is really cool” but he was locked in so I didn’t want to interrupt him.

This place is a home run. Really creative dishes and cocktails. Very small like Gi-Jin, more cooked dishes, less (but still great) ?. About 1/2 the price of Gi-Jin. This is a big win for the East End!

I picked up Golden Gai a few months ago, and it was pretty good! It closed earlier than I expected, but the presentation was amazing for takeout sushi. The miso soup was incredible, and I really liked the chef's choice rolls I got. I really wish there was a little card that told me what I was eating, but I was able to sleuth it out from the website. All the fish was really high quality, delicious, and the dish you're given makes it easy to eat wherever you are. However, the sauces didn't really make sense to me, and I really would have liked to know what the chef choice was without looking it up. Looking forward to eating in the restaurant sometime soon!

I’ve gone here around 4 times now so I felt compelled to give a review! I’ll just start by saying… for the people who said the prices are high clearly haven’t eaten top quality fish. The prices are great for the quality you receive! The everything is absolutely fresh. It’s comparable to the sushi I’ve eaten in Japan that’s just how great this place is. Golden Gai and Gi-Jin are amazing!!! Thank you for bringing this quality sushi to this area

Home of okay sushi, very high prices, and the smallest miso soup I have ever seen.

We were very excited to try Golden Gai and had been eagerly awaiting its opening. Unfortunately our first experience was very disappointing. We ordered 4 rolls, 2 nigiri, and a miso soup totaling just over $80.

The miso soup was comically small (see attached photos). The entire soup fit in one tiny sauce bowl I use for soy sauce. The flavor was mediocre.

Our rolls were okay. The fish tasted fresh but the rolls themselves were falling apart as we picked them up. They, too, were small for the price. The nigiri was a highlight and tasted great.

I really hope Golden Gai figures it out. Lots of potential but off to a sub-par start.

FINALLY - GREAT SUSHI IN THE EAST END! I've been waiting for this place to open. They are now doing take-out boxes a la Sugarfish that really impressed me. Fish was very fresh and rolls were well balanced. So happy and full.

The California rolls are made with real crab. I usually find them unremarkable but this was truly the best I've ever had. The spicy tuna, Toro, and yellowtail scallion were of the finest quality. This place has a bright future. The dining space next door at the pavilion is also very pretty. All around a pleasant surprise.

Been waiting for this place to open and finally visited. Restaurant is not fully open and is take-out only at the moment. Order through Kiosk or QR code.
I had the jirashi bowl $25. The sashimi used is incredibly high quality. However, the bowl itself was lacking. Huge portion of the bowl was radish and shiso leaf (which I think is mainly used as garnish). I never had jirashi with radish so this was unexpected. Also there were only about 8 pieces in the bowl, with not enough rice.
I would not recommend the bowl but I am curious to try their sashimi box (around $50). It’s under the same management as Gijin in downtown, which is premium sushi place, so looking forward to trying that next time.
