Merante Brothers Italian American Market, tucked away on Marion Avenue in Uptown, is an absolute gem. This charming little spot is part deli, part market, part sandwich shop—and total perfection.
They carry Italian specialty goods, fresh produce, hot and prepared meals, and a deli case full of deliciousness. Whether you're grabbing a jar of house-made sauce, some sliced salami, or a meatball hoagie, you're in for something special.
The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, and they know how to craft a seriously good sandwich. I stopped by on a Wednesday—which is when they get a delivery of fresh focaccia bread—and tried the sandwich of the day: steak, peppers, onions, and melty cheese on onion focaccia. It was unreal—I couldn’t put it down.
Don’t skip the homemade desserts either. The magic bars (a rich blend of chocolate, coconut, and pure joy) are worth the trip alone.
They're open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays from 6 a.m. to noon. Bonus: their breakfast sandwiches are massive and seriously tasty. I already can't wait to go back!

I've never gotten anything from here that wasn't excellent. Marco has something new on the hot counter each day along with his standard Italian meatballs and hot sausage. The mac and cheese is amazing! And when he has the lemon chicken, get it made into a sandwich... The breakfast sandwiches are huge and can be made to order all day. Plus, he now carries produce and fruits so it gives him more options for customizing sandwiches.
We were sad to see them closed for repairs when the building next door collapsed but so glad to see Marco came back stronger than ever!
Also... His mom makes great bake goods and a divine blueberry lemon sugar cookie.
The owner is a good dude. Everything is priced really well and the food is fresh and tastes great.
Incredible! Authentic, Italian Deli atmosphere. The meatballs are to die for… breakfast sandwiches with their fresh sliced cheddar and brick cheese… amazing. Muffins, cannolis… everything, you cannot go wrong.

Store says it's open but it's closed for remodeling??? So disappointed. Dad loves this store.

Merante Brothers Market food is so delicious and made with love. I worked with Marco on a catering order for one small (7-10 people) and one large (70 people) event. Both times Marco was nothing short of professional, helpful, kind, and transparent on pricing and what the store could provide. The food was so delicious and he made it so easy. Highly recommend this business!
