Damn this place is really going downhill. I wish I took a picture of the watery, soggy mess they call a pizza. I used to want to bring visitors here and brag about the good pizza. Sad part is, you can tell they use quality ingredients. But with the poor service, bad food, and warm white wine I don’t think I could. Hoping they turn it back around soon and I’d be happy to change my review.

Without exaggeration, one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Poorly prepared food, grossly inattentive service, chaotic and freezing cold dining interior—and (to add insult to injury) flippant management who failed to follow through after admitting there were multiple issues at their Shadyside location. If you are management, you follow through on your promises to make up for a disastrous dining experience at your establishment. You don’t apologize, make excuses, and then conveniently “forget” to issue a refund or otherwise try to make up for a horrendous experience. Treat your customers poorly, and soon … you won’t have any. Simple as that. We will stick with Alta Via Pizzeria ~ consistently excellent, creative food and attentive service—and superb management who appreciates its customers.

We ate at the Walnut Street (Shadyside) location, after having enjoyed their gelato on various occasions. Our pizza really was not good—there were virtually no toppings on it. They forgot the wine we ordered as well. We originally wanted one of the pizzas with mushrooms, but they were completely out of mushrooms? It seemed like they were low on pizza making supplies, since our toppings were almost nonexistent. It was freezing cold in the restaurant as well. Giant eagle or Whole Foods is close by—no mushrooms?? My wife emailed twice and finally received a call from Anna Cruz, and she said they had a lot of other complaints that night, and admitted things weren’t up to par, and they were having a problem at the Shadyside location. She promised to take care of it. Nothing was done, and my wife called back because she was told they couldn’t find our check. My wife provided the card information and date, and was told they would take care of it once again. Still no response, and no resolution.

I rarely leave reviews that are not positive but wow this was necessary... I have loved Mercurio's for years up until yesterday when I found GLASS pieces in my mouth after biting down on a slice. I was shocked that I found 2 pieces of glass in my mouth and I'm honestly fearful of what I may have ingested. When I called and spoke to Julio the general manager he said "sorry" and refunded me just that one pizza. What kind of restaurant doesn't comp the entire meal after finding GLASS in a customers food. I hate to say that I won't be eating here anymore as this was a long-time favorite of mine.
