Waiter was very nice and great at his job but thats basically the only good thing I can say about this place. I should have known by the musty smell of the restaurant that this wasn’t the place for us but it was a quick decision and we didn’t have much time to eat so we decided to stay. They didn’t have any light beer in stock and the beer list they did have was very small. Very surprising for a place in Pittsburgh. Now on to the food- the fried zucchini was very good, no complaints. The French onion soup tasted like a bowl of melted butter, it was even the color of butter. Very odd. We also got a burger and it had to be sent back because it was completely red inside. I can understand a mistake like that but there was blood all over the plate so it was pretty noticeable. Most restaurants would make a fresh one. Not this place. They scraped the cheese and toppings off and put it back on the grill and re topped it with a new bun. Although it was cooked the second time, it was the worse burger we’ve ever had. So much salt and the outside was burnt. Fries were also very salty. Sad, this place could have so much potential.

When you first walked in, you can pick where you sit. I ordered a French onion soup and asked for the top to be crispy on the top. When the soup came to the table, it looks like the cheese had melted all the way to the bottom couldn’t even see the cheese. I also got their burger that had fried pickles and cheese on it. But they had disguised the burger with lots of cheese, but the burger was so burnt. I couldn’t even eat it. I asked for it to be medium, and it was way overdone. My friends steak was served well done when it was ordered medium could barely cut it. We thought the knives were dull, but I think the meat was just too cooked. One server came over and asked how the food was. I said it was just OK. I didn’t ask if anything was wrong. Just walked away and never came back to check on us. I had no water for the rest of the meal. When asking for the check, they ended up doing giving us a discount but overall, the food and the service was not great. I would not recommend I promise you’ll thank me

Worst meal I have ever tried, could not even get a second bite down. I ordered the barbeque chicken, it was dry but the bbq sauce was absolutely awful. The waitress did not even ask me if my food was okay. She obviously knows. There was also a consumer alert posted on the front door. I should have known better but wanted to support a local establishment.

Consumer alert posted by the ACHD for: Unsound food and beverages for sale, unsanitary conditions, improper sanitization procedures, plumbing issues, rodent infestation (nesting and numerous droppings found throughout including in a plastic wrap box, throughout storage and office areas, inside a walk in cooler), structural issues, food stored on the floor, improper pest control methods, cooking oil dripping into the business next door from an excessive amount of used oil behind the entire cookline, clutter observed creating harborage conditions.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Murray Avenue Grill on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill for various health code violations.

A May 8 inspection revealed one freshly dead mouse and one dried out one on glue boards in the basement. There were too many to count fresh and old rodent droppings along the walls, floors and shelves in the basement storage areas and office space.

About 40-50 rodent droppings were seen along the walls on the inside of a walk-in cooler. Another 20-30 fresh rodent droppings were found in a cabinet behind the bar.

Two liquor bottles at the bar had dead insects floating inside them.

Rodent nesting material was found beneath the basement stairs, behind the water heater in the office and under shelving units in the basement.

The slicer blade and the fry punch in the basement were soiled. A black, mold-like substance was observed along the kick plate of the ice machine.

A restaurant with a consumer alert placard is allowed to operate for a temporary period not exceeding 10 days. Another inspection is conducted either prior to the expiration of the temporary period upon request of the eatery owner or on the tenth day.

I ate here one night and was nauseous afterwards and didn't understand why, but now I know. Please get the restaurant cleaned up because I really like you guys food and service, but I don't want to die for it.

Awful experience. My order was incomplete and when I called, the host kept hanging up on me on purpose and pretended there were connection issues. He then lied about his name. Then he told me to never call again. I never raised my voice or was even upset at him. He was so mean. This happened today, May 2 2025 at 6:00pm.

Is it a little dingy? Yes. It matters not. We came here to celebrate my father’s birthday. I don’t think I’ve ever had a better waitress. The food was absolutely excellent. It seems like if you are a local and “in the know,” you’ve been here and had a great experience. If they give the interior a little update, I think this place would be packed. Really loved their fried zucchini and burgers! A genuinely happy place. (I also see someone gave the restaurant a two star rating because their mahi mahi steak was “raw in the middle.” Darling. Honey. That’s how it’s supposed to be prepared, sweety. Don’t blame this fine restaurant for your being a rube. 😅)
