One of the best Thai experiences I’ve had in all my travels. Service was impeccable, they were accommodating and friendly to my children. At the end of the meal our waitress brought out an adorable complementary orange dish for my young kids. All the dishes were delicious and very fresh. This restaurant is on the pricey side but well worth the extra money if you also want a nice dining experience and not just a piping hot mouth watering take out box.

Wonderful Thai spot near the Pittsburgh strip district and the convention center. The wait service was friendly and efficient. The service fast. And the food was wonderful. I had the yellow noodle curry with beef and the curry sauce was fantastic. A great spot for dinner!

We’re vegetarians visiting from New York and were excited to try Nicky’s Thai Kitchen based on the great reviews. The ambiance is charming, and the staff was friendly, but the food didn’t quite meet our expectations.

As vegetarians, we found the options limited and the flavors less authentic than the Thai cuisine we’re used to back home. The dishes lacked the depth and balance of spice and freshness typical in traditional Thai food. It wasn’t bad by any means — just not what we anticipated.

A decent spot if you’re nearby, but not a must-visit for those seeking true Thai flavors.

We went there to get our lunch. But decided to just take our food out, since we ran out of time before our appointment in a hotel nearby. The food was great. I appreciate the our server to get our food ready in a short time so we can leave right away.

Good Thai with great heat levels. Fish specialities are great too. Service is snappy. On the pricier side.

I really liked their food the first time I came here, but my second visit wasn’t the best. I went yesterday with a group of four, and even though we ordered separately for takeout, they put everything into one bag. When I asked the lady at the counter to separate it, she was kind of rude and said it would be 40 cents which honestly didn’t make sense to me. Also, the Thai iced tea didn’t taste like it did the first time; it was super milky and not as flavorful. I still think their food is great, but I just hope they’re more consistent with their service and drinks.

Every city has that one place. The one that claims to serve something exotic, something rooted in tradition, something that might just transport you to the streets of Bangkok if you squint hard enough and hold your breath. And then the food arrives. And you realize you're not in Thailand. You're not even close. You're in a strip mall fever dream of what someone thinks Thai food should be after watching a YouTube video and panic-buying lemongrass.

This is that place.

In Pittsburgh, a city with legitimately excellent Thai options, this spot feels like a parody. Smiling Banana Leaf and Manheim Thai are doing the real work. They understand balance. They know when to use sweetness and when to pull back. They know heat is a conversation, not a novelty. Here, it’s like someone read the idea of Thai food off the back of a takeout menu and decided sugar and salt were the only two characters in the story.

The noodles were what you’d expect from a college dorm attempt at recreating dinner in Bangkok. Slippery. Cloying. Sweet to the point of insult. The kind of dish that makes you wonder if someone in the kitchen lost a bet and this is their punishment.

But the real heartbreak was the soup. I ordered Tom Yum and Tom Kha. Two soups that, when done right, are a masterclass in balance. Heat. Acid. Creaminess. Fragrance. Complexity. What I got instead were two bowls of warm disappointment. They tasted like Chinese takeout broth that got lost on the way to a Thai restaurant and decided to dress up with some galangal and lemongrass to fit in. The soul of the dish was missing. The heat was missing. I asked for level five, their maximum. It registered somewhere between tap water and regret. There was no fire. Not even a flicker. A toddler could drink it and ask for more spice.

This was not Thai food. It was Thai-flavored noise. And not even good noise. Just loud and hollow.

If you have never had real Thai food, maybe this place could trick you. Maybe the sugar will distract you long enough to think it’s fine. But if you’ve ever sat in a hole-in-the-wall in Bangkok or even a legit spot stateside, you’ll taste the absence immediately. The depth is gone. The craft is missing. The respect for the cuisine just isn’t there.

So no. I wouldn’t recommend it. Not when Pittsburgh offers the real thing just a few blocks away. Save your money. Save your palate. Thai food deserves better. So do you.
