The price for high tea is diabolical for the amount of food they provide and the quality. The sandwiches were tiny and essentially just an egg salad and chicken salad sandwich. $55 per person for tiny little bites of food. We had a group of four and we only received one tray of food; we each had one little sandwich and one little pastry. We spent roughly $250 (with tip and tax) for a small amount of mediocre food. Additionally, service was slow and they had pre-set tea flavors. Usually, at a high tea, you have an array of options to select from. Lastly, the scones were terrible - had an odd taste, I couldn’t quite tell but it tasted like too much salt or baking soda was used. On a positive note, the William Penn is a beautiful hotel and has a lovely atmosphere. Your money is better spent elsewhere unfortunately.

Right amount of food for an afternoon tea. I appreciated that the chef was able to accommodate my husband's gluten allergy. I also enjoyed the variety of teas that were served throughout the tea service. Finally our waiter Robert was very personable and his service was excellent.
Robert was our waiter & he was so fun, polite, and informative! We had such a great time doing Afternoon Tea! The food was so good and the tea was delicious. Thank you for having us!
We had a excellent meal, and great service. I had a Cesar salad, and the Boar Blogsnase. My wife had a Filet. Our server provided excellent service, and was helpful and friendly. It was my wife's birthday, and they comped her a piece of cheesecake, which she enjoyed. We will definitely be returning. Thanks again.
We were literally the only table in the restaurant (between shows). Filet ordered medium and came out very much over well done. Branzino was so overcooked that you could barely cut it with knife. I don't mind paying premium but food has to be edible. Do not recommend
I indicated on the reservation that one guest in our party did not eat chocolate but no accommodation was made and three of the dessert items were chocolate. Also I was disappointed that clotted cream was not part of the scone course.
Mother's Day brunch in the Terrace room at the William Penn Hotel was outstanding. Beautiful, grand room with high ceilings and a large historic painting on the wall. The ambiance was upscale and sophisticated. Service was top notch- I wish I could remember our waitresses name. In between her frequent checks on us, other employees would stop to ensure we had no needs. The food was delicious and included many different carving stations, prepared dishes, sides, and omelet station as well as many delicious desserts. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
We're so grateful that this Pittsburgh tradition is back to serving great meals. Terrace Room holiday meals are always a real pleasure! Thank you for making our Mother's Day special. Hoping we can do this again soon.
The room was too warm. The tea was good - 3 different types. The savory options were good, but not plentiful enough. The service was sporadic. The bill was more than I would be inclined to pay for what we received.

Because of the long standing reputation of the William Penn I expected nothing but an exceptional experience. The service was excellent- the waitstaff was very attentive. However I was disappointed that we were not able to select from a variety of teas - we were served three teas but they seemed to be very ordinary, common teas that I could have bought at a local grocery store. The tea sandwiches were tasty but we got far more sweets than savory sandwiches. I would have preferred more savory tea sandwiches and just a couple of sweets. The dining room ambiance was calm and relaxing but it was a cold day and we were seated next to a drafty window which made for a chilly experience. For $55 per person I had higher expectations. I probably won't go back anytime soon.
First, this is a truly beautiful and relaxing place. All the staff seemed to appreciate us as patrons. However there is a downside right now. The menu is small and relatively unappetizing. Entrees are limited. This really wouldn't be all that bad but our food was way overdone, dry and very unappealing. One of the entrees was the Amish Chicken. It was very hard to eat and consisted of a small chicken leg that was burned and extremely dry. We as a rule never send anything back and it was Valentines Day as well. The cost is also fairly high with regard to what you get. I think the saving grace is that they are getting a new chef and new menu. Don't know if we would go back.
The Terrace Room is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been going for many years to the Terrace Room, but only a couple times per year as it is very expensive. The food and service are always exceptional which makes the big bill a little easier to pay.
My wife and I really enjoyed the throwback to the early 1900's. It was the best afternoon tea we have had at the Terrace Room and we have been coming for 18 years. The servers were excellent. The food was outstanding. An the way they were serving the tea was the best yet. We also went down to the Speakeasy afterwards and had a drink which was also excellent.
