Highly suggest going anywhere else. Incredibly disappointed in the service here. This restaurant is not a full service restaurant. You order on tablets and pay using card without speaking to anyone. There is no actual counter/register, only a rack to pick up online orders and an employee door to get to the kitchen. I got here right before 1AM on Saturday morning. There were 2 other customers that said they ordered 2 minutes before I arrived. After 5 minutes, we hadn’t seen a single employee or heard any noise from the kitchen at all. We tried verbally calling out to see if anyone was in the back as well as knocking on the employee door with no luck. We peaked through the employee door and there wasn’t a single person in the kitchen. We also tried calling the number listed for the store, but it was out of service. We tried to see if anyone might be out back possibly smoking, but there was no one outside. It has now been 15 minutes after we ordered and none of our orders had been started. When we went back inside, there were 8 new customers, who we suggested not to place their orders because we thought we were getting scammed. It was at this point, finally, the employee appeared. I have no idea where he was this entire time, but he came out to notice the 11 people who were now in the store. He said nothing and went back to the kitchen. After a few more minutes he asked about the order I was waiting on and said it would be an additional 15 minutes for him to make it. Waste of my time, save your money and go anywhere else. How is there only one person working the entire store, and he isn’t even present?

I don’t care what anyone says, Pilez is a staple of Oakland. Great food, reasonable prices, and open 24/7. No college neighborhood is complete without a good late night food spot, and Pilez serves that purpose at Pitt. Also, I lived in Rochester for a year and can honestly say that the garbage plates at Pilez are just as good if not better than the famous garbage plate places in Rochester (such as Henrietta Hots). I love this place and I don’t care what anyone else says, it’s the perfect late night spot for a college neighborhood. Pitt is lucky to have this place

The Good. Huge Portions
The Bad. Everything else.

I'm not gonna sugar coat it... the experience was awful and I love diner food.

Fries took 45 minutes. Missing sauces. Missing items. No help when hitting the help button for over 15 minutes after rung. Barely anyone was even there!

We dined and ordered in. The food was SALTY and the fried food was SOGGY and Luke warm.

I have to say, one of the top 5 worst experiences I've had in Pittsburgh restaurants. You might be hungry and Everything might be closed, but trust me you're gonna regret spending your money here unless you're too high for it to matter

Yeah, eating one of these "Pilez" probably shortens my life by a year due to more cholesterol, sodium, fat, and carbs than humanly possible to consume in one sitting, and my wallet dies a little every time, but will any of that stop me? No.

I just can’t believe they took a warm, welcoming, beautiful gem of a space where people could hang out, meet others, relax, have a drink, be uplifted that mad mex used to have and turned it into something akin to the interior of a jiffy lube. The art, color, fun is gone. The concept - garbage plates - isn’t so bad, but why a destroy a great space? Huge loss for Pittsburgh

i wouldnt feed this to my dog. worst eating experience of my life. i went there on my lunch break 2 weeks after they had opened and it was nasty. i got a pile of fries with what I thought was going to be cheesestake meat on top. i got very greasy hamburger meat on top which made everything too soggy.

i had went a 2nd time to give them the benifit of the doubt and same old gross food. this place needs to be shut down and new food. your gross food wont work in oakland. please dont eat here.

I saw the reviews online and thought well it’s still a garbage plate and it’s 24 hours. It’s bound to be halfway decent and at least fill me up. I didn’t get any of the toppings I paid extra for and the plate didn’t come with the roll like it said it would. It was expensive as is. Also, everyone made comments about it being too salty which isn’t an issue for me, I love oversalting. It’s definitely too salty. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t so dry, but the burger was so dry and salty, there was like a tablespoon of meat sauce on it, and I added ranch which they didn’t give me. All around bad. Didn’t come with any onions either. The Mac salad was ok

Cool place to pick up food!

Everything is ordered from a self service kiosk! We got two of the chicken pilez, quesadillas, and smoothies. The smoothies were a little overpriced compared to other places but they were good. The food was excellent!

The staff was great. Really helpful since it was our first time their.

The atmosphere is only 3 stars but I really think it's intended to be a place you carry out from not really for dining in.

Vegetarian options: Cheese Quesadilla is really that only vegetarian option but it was really good

If the Twilight Zone opened a restaurant, this is what it would feel like. Weird space, and you can only order through a kiosk. There was no one around to help with a mistake in my friend's order.

The outside is a drab looking white obelisk of a building that has far less curb appeal than the Mad Mex that came before it, and the interior is even more dour. You are greeted with 2 tables, an order screen, and a big rack where bags of food would sit. You will see no workers until you receive your food, unless you order takeout online. In that case you will see no one, period.

It also took absolutely forever to get my food, despite me being the only customer there for the entire duration of my visit. I dined at one of the tables and it took awhile for me to eat because it was a veritable mountain of food. I actually couldn't finish it in one go and had some leftovers to munch on when waking up after my night out. Food prices were fair, though drink prices were highway robbery. 2.575for a can of pop? Smoothies for 11.50!? Doordash doesn't even list them as orderable.

But ambiance and service, while nice, are not why we go to eateries. It's the food! And how is the food? Issa garbage plate, and a damn fine one. It scratches a verrrry particular itch and caters to that specific craving. I got the cheeseburger pile, and it was enough for two easily. I will say, I asked for mustard and they were VERY heavy handed with it. I tend to love yellow mustard so it was no biggie, but even for me it was a little too heavy. Didn't detract, but that did keep the food from being 5 star for me. Definitely will come back after dancing all night, as it is the perfect food to refuel and combat hangovers since it is very calorie dense, filling, and most importantly GOOD!

The service may be snail paced, and it may be giving ghost kitchen, but the food hits the spot and to my knowledge no other place in Pittsburgh hits quite the same. It's a niche thing, sure, but it is excellent late night turned into an early morning fix.

I never leave reviews but feeling very disappointed. I ordered delivery on grubhub, two crunch wraps with no tomato and they both came with tomato and not good. I also go mac and cheese but was too spicy to even eat. I ordered fried pickles, they were good but didn't come with ranch as it says. I ordered funnel cake and it was missing but received cheese sticks that I didn't order. maybe they were out and thought that would make up from them but I would have preferred them to reach out and notify me or ask, and maybe wouldn't be as upset if they had came with the marinara they're supposed to. only got $20 refund on $100 order but I feel like I deserve a full refund :( was really looking forward to it unfortunately very unsatisfied
