In the 1990s Pittsburgh was bursting with places where you could reliably get a delicious and affordable simple New York style pizza. As the original owners got old, retired, or died, the quality of many of those places has steeply declined. What was once a great pizza city now disappoints. Pizza Lupo is not the New York style pizza of 90s Pittsburgh. It has an artisanal appearance and flavor profile. There is a non-uniform distribution of sauce and cheese, which are tangy, and they are generous with the fresh basil leaves. The pizza crust at Pizza Lupo is very simple and is typically burnt. You can be more "char"-itable and call this a charred New Haven style crust, but that is just a synonym for burnt. When you get a pizza from them that is only fully-cooked and not blackened, it tastes wonderful. More typically, it tastes half delicious and half burnt chemicals that may give you cancer. I get that burnt can have a trendy appeal and may be a sign of authenticity to the misguided, but actually, burnt acrid chemicals in my mouth is why I had to give up on this place.

Amazing pizza and wonderful staff!! So far, my favorite is the white pizza with sausage. Highly recommend the grandma pie dough. I also really loved the calzone #1 with sopressatta and hot honey. Looking forward to trying more items there. Keep up the good work guys - Bravo! :)Wheelchair accessibility: There is a free parking lot right next to the store. The sidewalk leading to the front door is in good condition.

Great pizzas! Thin crust was better than Chicago style though. Parking lot beside building makes it convenient to pickup.

Ordered a large vodka sauce pizza and it was fantastic. I love vodka sauce but never had it on a pizza, so good! Hours fluctuate depending on the day of the week and I have read grandma and Sicilian are limited quantities per day? Prices are in line with other pizza places in the area. The pizza box was folded inside out which seemed quirky. I'll definitely be returning to try their other pies. It's also owned by a couple firefighters which is pretty cool.

our son told us how great the pies are at Pizza Lupo. We ordered a vodka pie which is one of the most popular. Pie has great crust and flavors but not enough sauce. We will try another of their pies next time

Stop 11 of my pizza passport. Staff super f friendly. Got the traditional slice of pepperoni and they asked if I wanted hot honey (um...duh lol). The crust stood out from the pack for sure. Crisp and airy. Everything else was just quality. I'll definitely be back!

Pizza Lupo is our favorite pizza in Pittsburgh - both the crust and the toppings are the best!! The crust is perfect, puffed edges with a nice crackling texture. This crust is so good that I eat every last bite (I often leave the edges with other pizzas). It has enough solidity that you can always pick up the slice with no saggy, drippy tips to burn your fingers. Both the basic toppings and the specialty toppings are perfectly distributed spatially so that you get a mixture of everything in every bite. The pepperoni ends up with that elusive and delicious cup-shape with crispy edges. All of the specialty pies we have tried have been delicious, with creative flavor combinations that work well together. The Tropic Thunder pizza is our all-time favorite pizza, with its smoked mozzarella, bacon, pickled jalapenos, roasted pineapple chunks, chili oil and fresh basil. The meatballs are tasty and the salad gets loads of flavor from the inclusion of pepperoncini, olives and shaved parm. The staff is also very friendly in this small family business

This is probably one of the best, if not the best, pizza shops in Pittsburgh. The pizza is so delicious and fresh- we have gotten probably every pizza on the menu! The hoagies are good too! My favorite pizza is pepperoni, it's classic but yet perfect. My kids love it too! Highly recommend. I'm so glad they changed hours to open earlier too!

Hands down one of the best pizza shops in the burgh. I toggle between the tropic thunder and the white pie. You won't be disappointed no matter what you choose. Also, a big shout out to the staff for always being so friendly. When I come in with one of my kids, and we have to wait for our pie, they always offer them a drink. I love the family vibe.

Definitely top 5 pizza place in Pittsburgh. I believe my favorite to date. I didn't get an opportunity to try the grandma or Sicilian but tried a standard pepperoni and drunken meatball pizza. Both were delicious and by far the best cheese/bread sticks I've had. The sauce for dipping was good along with the ranch. $50 total was high, but was plenty of food and worth it for the quality.

This is the best pizza place in Pittsburgh. Any other place claiming otherwise is falsehood. Pizza lupo is in a tier of its own. The vodka pie is an especially delicious and unique pizza I’ve never seen elsewhere. This place is the American dream when it comes to pizza. Ps. The meatballs are just as good! Authentic as it gets!!!! Outstanding family owned business

My husband and I made our first visit to Pizza Lupo in Lawrenceville during the Best Bites Pizza Passport event. They were extremely busy but the staff was working efficiently to fill pickup orders, telephone orders and orders from walk-in customers. The chef recommended the Burrata pie which was delicious with a thin crust that had a chew to it, a flavorful tomato sauce that was not overly strong, a generous amount of the delicious soft cheese, and was topped with fresh basil. Even though we don't live in Lawrenceville, we will be back because pizza this good is worth the drive.
