Strange Roots Experimental Ales is a local brewery known for its adventurous beers, particularly its wild fermented sours. The spacious interior and friendly staff contribute to a pleasant atmosphere. A Pittsburgh Sandwich Society is located within the building, offering delicious food.
The Plague sour is a standout beer, with the 2019 version being the most sour. Reasonable prices and helpful staff make for an enjoyable experience, especially for sour beer lovers.
The brewery has a large outdoor space complete with string lights and plenty of seating. The inside consists of more seating as well as a bar. Customers can enjoy a variety of beers, including the tart burst, a sour ale conditioned on blueberries and cherries, and the gose, a good representation of the style.
The Johnny's Mustache Pilsner is a good, light summer beer, while the Nashville Chicken Sandwich from the Pittsburgh Sandwich Society is a highlight, with a crunchy exterior and tender interior.
