This was MY TYPE of place. The atmosphere was moody, beautiful and stylish. The queso was to die for (make sure you grab that) and the drinks were so yummy. I had the spicy pineapple margarita and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. It’s a bit on the pricier side but it was worth it, in my opinion. Check it out if you’re in the area, I’m so glad I came.

We recently visited Täkō in downtown Pittsburgh and overall had a good experience, with a few caveats.

While my wife and I did not drink, there is a full bar with a wide variety of options that looked like there would be something for everyone. The atmosphere is on the darker side, and the restaurant really leans into an octopus/sea-monster theme with its décor, which complements their signature dish. Menus were accessed via QR code (we didn’t ask if paper menus were available). The space itself is fairly small and was noticeably cold and drafty—especially on a winter night—so I’d recommend bringing a jacket during the colder months. The kitchen is located at the front, and you walk past it on your way in, which is a nice touch.

We were seated in a mostly empty restaurant, and our server was very attentive. Orders were taken quickly and service was prompt at first. Once the restaurant filled up a bit, however, it took noticeably longer for us to receive our check.

We started with the guacamole, which was fresh with a mild kick of spice. The freshly cooked chips were honestly the standout here and may have stolen the show from the guacamole itself. Jalapeños are not mixed in, so if you’re spice-averse, you could easily request none or just work around them.

My wife and I split three tacos:

Carnitas – braised pork shoulder, guacamole, pickled red onion, salsa verde, chicharrónes, cilantro

Pollo Asado – lime garlic chicken, salsa verde, crema, avocado, Chihuahua cheese, cilantro

Bistec – flank steak, slaw, pico, cotija, jack cheese, tomatillo morita salsa

By far our favorite was the pollo asado, which we would absolutely order again. We loved the flavor of the chicken, and thought the toppings went quite well with it. We were split on second and third place. I preferred the bistec over the carnitas, finding it more moist and flavorful, while the carnitas were a bit dry for my taste and could have benefited from a brighter element—perhaps more salsa. My wife felt differently: her main issue with the bistec was that the jack cheese was cold and unmelted, and combined with the cotija it made the taco feel a bit gritty. She thought the carnitas were more balanced overall.

The prices at this restaurant are a little steep for your standard taco restaurant and portion size, and this was the main reason for a more critical take. That said, we would still return. There are more menu items we’d like to try, and we’d likely come back when the weather is more forgiving and downtown is more enjoyable to walk around—rather than on a below-freezing January night.

Probably the best tacos I've ever had. The ambience was so dark and moody I loved it. And the bartenders and service were amazing. 10/10

I dined at this restaurant somewhere around the first month that they opened and there was a great deal of care going into the food and the recipes and the quality everything there was delicious that felt like several years ago. I talked it up to my family. we went before a show recently. We had the Korean barbecue tacos. My daughter had the gringo tacos. No one ate anything I ordered the Korean barbecue tacos. They were inedible burnt to a crisp crunchy like potato chips I make Korean barbecue at home often. This had no resemblance to Korean barbecue tasted like ashes I looked in the kitchen. There were six or seven people there just turning out food. I understand what happens when suddenly you have to make numbers and meet a scale instead of the passion in the quality I felt that this place lost for me all the appeal at once had. I’m sad to have to write this. I don’t see how I could go back for $150 for tacos and beer. I know the group that owns this has done and can do much better, but that’s what happens when volume takes over

Love the food, atmosphere and service! I normally have the Korean taco today. I changed it up and had both the fish taco and the mushroom taco with the classic margarita. They are all so good.

Korean tacos had a bad balance. The beef somehow tasted more crunchy than like beef and the ratio of pickled veggies/salsa to meat was off, needed more freshness to deal the crunch from all the beef? Ended up just wading the top of the tacos to get the balance and leaving the rest. Not good tacos

Tako hits the mark good food, solid service, and a cool, offbeat vibe that fits the space perfectly. Definitely worth checking out.

This place is fantastic in every aspect. We got the street corn app, chicken and Al pastor tacos, and cocktails. All were amazing! I could rant about it all, but the flavor and char on the chicken was mind-blowing! Service was exceptional and food came out super fast. As we dined, we admired the beautiful decor and wall paintings. Great atmosphere, great service, and amazing food. Don’t miss this spot!

I have been to Tako probably 50 times since they opened. A solid choice and I am always grateful they serve food on the later side when most restaurants are shutting down at 9pm. My one wish is that they would offer a vegetarian taco as one of the daily specials because the mushroom one on the menu is not their best work. They had a carrot taco that was divine - bring it back forever! Subbing potato for the meat in the other tacos is offered as an option. Always good service.

Incredible decor and vibe. The food is mostly fried street food so it has to be tastey!

Some of the tacos can be extremely spicy (and I like spice), if that's not your thing, the al pastor tacos are incredible! The service was excellent too. Great place to duck into late on the weekend.
