Best cakes in Pittsburgh! The butter cream is divine and just melts in your mouth. They always have unique combinations that keep changing. Their vegan cakes are so fluffy and moist. I'm always confused when I go there on which cake to get because they all look amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Creative outside the box desserts, cakes, brownies, blondies, all made with lots of butter, all served on mismatched vintage china and silverware. Been there many times and staff is always relaxed and friendly.

It's okay. Nothing spectacular. Pistachio butter cream was very good, but blondie and chocolate cakes were a bit disappointing.

Ok, so it's like somebody went into my dreams and opened a bakery that is open at night!!! I always wanted this!!!

Meh. We sampled several cakes. They all had the same flavor. Which was no flavor at all. Just salty.

They have a lot of unique flavors! I stopped in for a quick sample and got chocolate tea cakes; the cupcakes were moist and the vegan buttercream icing was so creamy! I also got a berry crumble which had just the right amount of tart and sweet. Unfortunately, when I tried to order a vegan cake for my birthday, all of the vegan options were listed as "sold out." I do hope to get another chance to order a whole, vegan cake.

Butterwood is usually a delight, but tonight was very disappointing. I placed a large to-go order (two drinks, two cake slices, two cupcakes, a brownie, and a card). After driving 30 minutes home, I realized the brownie was missing. No one answered the phone, so I had to drive back.
When I explained, the worker immediately insisted I hadn’t ordered a brownie, even though she had repeated it back to me when I first ordered. She didn’t even acknowledge that a card was on the order. Her attitude was snarky, and instead of offering a solution, she tried to charge me again with no accommodation, despite me spending over $50 and making a second trip. As someone who works in customer service, it’s not hard to be kind about these things.

This bakery is awesome. The cakes and pastries are delicious. I love the lavender cake. Also, the staff are super helpful and dedicated, going above and beyond. My mom made a big mistake in her order and they worked with her and totally saved the day. Shoutout to Angie!!

This is one of the most beautiful bakeries in the world. The cakes are all beautifully decorated and taste just as wonderful as they look! The bakery itself is an old compelan home with ample seating. Great place to come hang out, bring a date, spot worth a book, or bring the parents. They also have a great selection of tea and coffee.

As a contractor doing work at The Butterwood Ally and her staff we're wonderful and accommodating to work with!..The communication was great when I had some questions about things that I got answers to very quickly!..The atmosphere was quite attractive!.. I hear the pastries, 🍰🧁 cakes, etc are really delicious here too!.. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone!..😁

Although the service was lovely and helpful, and the atmosphere is charming but a tad dark, I was not impressed with the desserts we tried. The chocolate chip cookie sandwich with peanut butter buttercream was our favorite but not a stand out from what you might get at other bakeries. The raspberry rose tea cake was a very good texture, but neither the cake or the buttercream had a very strong raspberry flavor (or much flavor of any sort), a bit disappointing as I love raspberry with cake. The browned butter blondie had a good flavor, but was very dry and crumbly, more than blondies I’ve had elsewhere. The price point was a bit high for the experience we had, and I know the price is driven by the use of high quality ingredients, but the end products were not as high quality as I had hoped for given the very positive reviews I’ve heard from other people.
