Excellent place. Great food, friendly staff. Must return soon!
I never and I mean NEVER write reviews. So this may sound like a Sex in the City rerun more than I’d intended lol. The purpose of my trip was to experience a side of Pittsburgh that wasn’t attached to the party element…Carson street. But here is exactly where I found my new repeat gem. First the staff. My own family couldn’t have been more welcoming. Showered with hellos as soon as I cracked the door. To my knowledge, I had never experienced Brazilian cuisine, they were SUPER receptive to questions about the culture, how things would taste, what’s their favorite dish, what drink to try, how’s my trip so far, what am I reading (Necessary Endings by Dr Henry Cloud) and suggestions on later plans. I mean I felt like I was at a distant cousins house not only from the hospitality but the charm of the environment. Now food/drink. Blew my mind. I ordered the red snapper, the ribs and a host of sides(I will upload a picture). I can’t even do it justice with words. The flavor of the sauce the ribs are braised in is RIDICULOUS. They are tender and fall right off the bone. The skillet keeps them nice and hot while you venture amongst other plates. I’ve never eaten fish in its entirety before but no regrets. Crisp. Flavorful. Presentation felt lively and full of expressive culture. They slice the fish and stuff it with garnishes. The plantains(try the garlic dip OMG, the red bean soup I mean seriously life changing. I also had a drink can’t recall the name but it was made with authentic Brazilian liquor and I second that(I also bought a soursop smoothie). Bill was less than $60. I stayed for longer than needed. Literally talked to the chef who was married to the waitress (so stinking cute). I had a male bartender and I sat at the bar. Experience and quality is what makes this quaint little secret worth talking about.
Parking: It’s busy Carson street so depending on the time and day it will vary; street parking.

As someone with gluten intolerance, I am always on the lookout and I really, really love this place. The arepas were incredible.

Food was fresh and tasty. We shared the tostones and guac. My wife had a rich chicken dish in a cream sauce. I had an arepa with beef and plantains, which was good if slightly lacking in texture. We each had sides of beans which were delicious.

The food was a little salty, the service was good, the situation that bothered me was that they forcefully wanted to include the tip and I told the waitress and she argued that only tips are not paid, but I told her that tips are voluntary.
On another occasion, the hamburger meat that my son ordered was raw.

I have visited this restaurant several times, the food is very good but the service is very bad, they need to improve the service.

5 Stars – An Instant Favorite! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We were on our way to get sushi when we walked past The Colombian Spot, checked out the menu, and made a last-minute call to switch plan and I’m so glad we did. The food was incredible. My wife is Colombian, and she said it was the closest to her grandmother’s cooking she’s had in years, which says a lot.
We don’t eat out much anymore because quality has gone downhill, but that’s definitely not the case here. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and made with care. This place shot straight to the top of our Pittsburgh favorites, and we’ll be back often. If you’re thinking about going, just do it, you won’t regret it. We already want to go back!

The empanadas were crunchy and delicious, the arrepas were perfect, and the service was great. I had the Arroz Montanero which was a massive plate of fried rice with pork belly and plantains, with steak and sausage and more. The tastiest and most filling meal I've ever had on Southside.
My only complaint is that the beer tower + 4 empanada special said it was $28 on the special menu, then regular menu said it was $29, and then when the check came it was $31. Not a big deal, but you gotta make it clear what the actual price is and not be misleading.
