Chicken was terrible. Fatty and overcooked. Potato starter was good. Spicy crab starter was a mess. Not sure of the intent. Bar drinks were good and waiter Scott was excellent.
Our dinner was absolutely wonderful and service was fantastic. Great atmosphere and very easy to hold a conversation. Definitely will be returning!
Thanks for a very memorable visit from dining to amazing hospitality, the food was exceptional and the service was top-notch, we truly appreciated the warm welcome and the extra efforts made by Andy, George and Kelly to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. You all definitely know how to make a Birthday Party a memory of a lifetime. Thank you again for a pallet full of taste and experiences. 👏
I visited The Commoner on Fathers Day. With reservations, my party was seated immediately and greeted by our waitress. So no wait time. Fantastic! Orders placed for food and beverage quickly. Kitchen somehow lost our order so we had to reorder verbally with our waitress but it did not cause too big of an impact to our wait time. We ordered the Malted Waffle and Crab Omelet. Both were good. The pistachio butter on the waffle was unique and delicious. Waffle was cooked perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Crab omelet was good but the sauce is very rich so it may be hard for some to eat all of it. The potatoes were great and we also ordered bacon on the side. The bacon was edible but a bit overcooked resulting in a dried pork. Cocktail drinks were delicious as well. All in all the food and service was great. I would return. The only negative was parking. They offer valet for $12, so we took advantage of this. We pulled our car to the curb where the parking attendant told us to stop and we paid him the $12. Our car stayed there the entire time so they technically didn't park our car, we did. Yet we still had to pay the $12. We opted to still give a small tip but honestly we shouldn't have since they didn't have to get in our car and move it. Next time we will self park in the Mellon Sq garage for a little cheaper and walk 30 yds maybe.
We had a wonderful meal at the Commoner. The atmosphere was lovely with good lighting. Out food was delicious. I highly recommend the spicy crab dish. It was incredibly flavorful and great to share. Our server, George, was professional and attentive. We really couldn't ask for more. We will certainly return our next trip to Pittsburgh
Yves was very accommodating, knowledgeable and fun. While the butter for the foccacia was a little salty, the flavor and texture of the bread made up for it. My first time having beets with berries that won't be my last! Thank you taking such good care of us 🤩
Great breakfast
We eat at The Commoner many times throughout the year, and this was the first time dining with their new dinner menu. Wish we could go back in time because the previous menu had things that everyone in our group absolutely loved. Their new 'mains' are very lacking of explanation and our waitress did not do a great job explaining them. Each 'main' is one word and it is difficult to understand how the listed ingredients work. The pork belly is no longer on the menu and neither are a few other things we always ordered. The bartenders were working hard and the drinks are always good.
It was a great choice to meet friends and have delicious food and bar drinks before a show!
Brussels sprouts were a divine starter! Salmon and Bass were cooked to perfection. Old Fashion cocktail was unique with strawberries. Cheesecake custard was served deconstructed in a bowl which was interesting, but delicious nonetheless.

Great place to eat in downtown Pittsburgh. Never disappointed in the food. The chefs really care and always put out a great plate.
We visited The Commoner for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't very busy. The atmosphere is chic and the decor is sophisticated and refined but still intriguing. Service was very friendly and helpful.
I ordered a coffee, which was delicious. They must have a really good coffee supplier, because it was really very good. For lunch, I ordered the BLT and it was incredibly good. It was grilled perfectly. The combination of the pesto spread and confit tomatoes were perfect. Just really good. I had a Caesar salad on the side. The meal was just perfect for an afternoon. The Commoner does not have a kids menu, which is okay. But the only option for my picky eater was a bowl of French fries (but he didn't complain 😊). I'd definitely visit again. Plus, it's inside Hotel Monaco - one of my favorite hotels.
Staff was very accommodating when I wanted to watch a specific sports game!
Great location for a special meal. Made reservations for Mothers Day brunch yesterday. Wonderful menu specials and the flowers were a nice touch. I've always enjoyed and recommend this place highly.
We absolutely always enjoy brunch at The Commoner. Libby is our server, and we always request her. She always takes perfect care of us; and seems to always know just how much attention to provide us and when to leave us alone, which is no easy server feat! The food almost always comes out perfect (this time the eggs were a little overdone; but no trouble at all because it was Mothers Day!). We always look forward to coming back for brunch!
