Amazing food, amazing service, great location, and the bartender makes the best mocktails.

After several years, still a 4. I started with a drink at the bar and then moved on to a table. It was around 5 on a Saturday and the place was dead except for a wedding party killing a half hour at the bar. Too early, I guess. The bar service was fine. The table service was too, though he perhaps came off as a little less than genuine. In any case, I didn't really want for anything. My burger and fries were very good and I enjoyed the wine. The burrata app was weird (they minced up the burrata?), but it tasted good. Perhaps they didn't want to serve the whole ball? My main gripe was that menu presented was different from the one found on their website. This was due to a recent seasonable update, but come on folks-it's just a quick upload. I was originally disappointed that the burger that I'd come there for was not on the new menu. When we asked, though, he explained (in a sort of annoyed, ugh-I-have-to-explain-the-burger-thing-again tone) that the burger was just too popular. While they still serve it, it's not on the menu "to give customers a chance to notice the rest of the [more expensive] menu offerings". Mind you, this is a $27 burger and fries we are talking about here - not a super-cheap dish that's bringing in the riff-raff. They apparently plan to rebrand the burger as a secret menu item or something. Maybe it's me, but if your burger is outshining the rest of the menu to the point where you actively try to sell less of it, perhaps the rest of the menu is actually the issue. I, for one, rarely order a burger and love more fine dining food, but nothing else on this menu really stood out to me.

Had dinner here 4/24. Service was excellent. There is a minimalistic approach to decor, but the seating is very comfortable. My friend had the Wagu burger and was happy with the quality and taste. Our server went the extra mile and got her a slice of tomato when she asked. He also brought the accompanying sauces, etc. separately so she could put it together as she chose. I had the Crab cavatelli. Sadly the chief missed the mark on this dish. There was not a single piece of crab visible in the entire entrée. The lemon overpowered the pasta so the nuance of the cream sauce was totally lost. We ordered the cheesecake for desert. I was surprised that it was deconstructed, a smear of custard sprinkled with berries and topped with Graham cracker crumbs. The berries were delicious. No Tempranillo wine available, but our server's suggested substitute was delicious. The Commoner is convenient when staying in the Kimpton Hotel Monaco, but I would not travel to dine there.

Lovely place. The burger was great even if they didn't list it on the menu.

My husband and I went for breakfast here as we stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco. When you walk into the restaurant the place is absolutely gorgeous and the ambiance is beautiful. Service was great, but I had one (small) issue with my breakfast plate. I ordered the frittata, thinking that it would be a thicker piece (a normal frittata), however it was almost paper thin with huge chunks of red & yelllow tomatoes, along with huge chunks of green onion. Not your ideal frittata!

Heading in was a warm and welcoming host. This is a nice lunch spot I like enjoying with my coworkers, for lunchtime as an opener to greeting, Strawberry Alley on our walk from Grant Street. I came for the fried chicken burger and it didn't disappoint. Considered leaving something behind, so it was a slice of the top of the bun. Everything was spot on!

Excellent place for dinner or drinks! Great bar with unique cocktails and a good beer selection. The food was outstanding. Everything we tried was fantastic and this was the best wedge salad I've ever had.

Breakfast at The Commoner was phenomenal. I had the steak and eggs, and whatever they season the steak with is to die for. I don't know how they make the potatoes, but it is how all potatoes should be made, forever. My scrambled eggs were perfect, not too dry, not too wet. My husband had the hash, and gave me some of his confit duck, and I swear I heard angels singing. Our waitress was a darling. Food came out fast. Atmosphere was great and comfortable. I cannot say enough good things.

Located at the floor of the Kimton, this place offers a new age American twist to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I enjoyed a nice omelette, which was cooked very well. The roasted potatoes were my favorite. Service was great and definitely return again!

Wasn’t able to have breakfast at 8:15AM here as per the host: there’s only one cook and one server before 10AM working and there was a line of people waiting to be allowed to sit in a mostly empty room ….

The Commoner is a must-visit destination for any foodie looking for exceptional cuisine and outstanding service in a truly unique setting. From the moment you step into the restaurant, you're transported to a world of rustic elegance and contemporary charm. One standout dish that I tried at The Commoner was the chicken and waffles, which was simply amazing. The dish was expertly crafted with perfectly crispy chicken and fluffy waffles that were a true delight to the senses. The dish was elevated with a drizzle of sweet and savory sauce, making for a truly unforgettable culinary experience. In addition to the chicken and waffles, I also had the pleasure of trying the seasonal salad, which was a fresh and healthy take on a classic dish. The salad was perfectly balanced and paired beautifully with the freshly baked bread. The service at The Commoner is also exceptional, with friendly and knowledgeable staff that are passionate about the food they serve. The warm and welcoming atmosphere makes for a truly enjoyable dining experience that will leave you feeling both satisfied and inspired. But what truly sets The Commoner apart is the building itself, which is a true masterpiece of industrial design and contemporary style. The space is beautifully designed with rustic elements like exposed brick and wood beams, as well as modern touches like sleek lighting and contemporary art.Overall, The Commoner is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for exceptional cuisine, outstanding service, and a truly unique dining experience. The restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients, expert preparation, and outstanding hospitality make it a true standout in the Pittsburgh dining scene. Don't miss the chance to try the amazing chicken and waffles and experience the cool and unique setting of The Commoner!
