I love coffee. And I don't mean sugar-laden, heart-attack-in-a-cup frappuccinos. When I say I love coffee, I mean I love single origin coffee that actually tastes like something besides burnt beans (sorry Starbucks). Because I love experimenting with coffee brewing techniques at home, and have a good idea of how to brew a good cup, it takes a really excellent coffee to get me excited about visiting a coffee shop. Tolve checks a lot of boxes for what you'd think of when imagining a Lawrenceville coffee shop. It is in a historic art deco building, the inside can really only be described as trendy and modern, and the fairly small menu is split between traditional coffees as well as unique mocktails!

Tolve is truly a coffee experience. I'm not much of a coffee drinker so I am drawn to a place that takes my drink to the next level. Tolve is that place. We stopped both mornings because there was no need to try anywhere else, but I also suggest supporting small business.

Professional specialty coffeeshop. It has a spacious seating room in upstairs.

A bit small but it goes well with the minimalist aesthetic! Overall, my friends and I really enjoyed meeting here for morning coffee + the upstairs area was clean and unique! Will definitely be back - my iced matcha was fantastic!

I take a walk daily from my home in the Strip to Lawrenceville. So, for the longest time, I would stop into Espresso a Mano and get a coffee or iced coffee, depending on the season. I had never been in Tonic before, but one random day, I decided to hike up the hill instead of walking toward Lawrenceville. To my surprise, Tonic turned out to be one of the best coffee places I have ever been to, and I consider myself a bit of an expert. I have ordered a variety of choices from their menu, as well as a vanilla latte, and all have been superb. Their pour over is one of the best in town. As I usually stick to black coffee, they have a variety of different options in this vein, and all are delicious.I think the key is the Japanese technology they use to make everything, and it is certainly impressive to look at. So is the decor, and even the bathrooms are amazing. The only thing I have a complaint about is the hours, as they are not open late, but neither was Mano. So I'm used to having to get my coffee fix before three, like a normal person, instead of drinking coffee all day, like I do at home. It's worth changing up your coffee going routine to check out this little, slightly out-of-the-way spot. It really feels special when you are in there, and the coffee is truly excellent. I really do highly recommend.

Excellent, welcoming service. Clean atmosphere. It would be worth visiting just for the coffee tonic, but it is also a great space to work or hang out in.

Cool spot with the most unique coffee drinks we've had in a long time! We'll definitely be back. The Tonic (iced) was zippy and refreshing. The Black Sesame (hot) had a deep, filling flavor. Recommend both.

Tonic Coffee is an incredibly unique coffee shop in Lawrenceville... the decor is minimalist, the ambience great with curated playlists, and a projector that displays art on the wall. It always smells amazing in here with a potent mix of freshly brewed coffee and the incense or candle of the day. Onto the drinks...Tonic Coffee deserves multiple updates and reviews as their menu is always changing and seasonal! They have their original mainstays like the Tonic Coffee or the Matcha Tonic (always on menu). Even if you are a creature of habit (like I am) and are tempted to only order your regular latte or pour over, these signature items are worth trying at least once! The Tonic Coffee is my favorite: a mysterious mix of espresso over ice, activated charcoal, bitters, finished with tonic water and lime essence. It drinks like a cocktail with a coffee soul. Well no, wait, the Matcha Tonic is also my favorite, depending on my mood! Also make sure to try their house-made Horchata (specialty on Fri-Sun)...if you've never had it, it's a comforting non-dairy rice drink made with cinnamon and sugar--it tastes a lot like childhood. If you are a coffee purist, make sure to try the espresso or pour-over on its own. The dial-in process is meticulous; they are particular to using light roasts (so you will experience much different coffee than you'll find in Pittsburgh) and they will happily take your feedback at the bar. I'm from California, and there's a lot of hype around 3rd wave coffee, and I have always found places like Blue Bottle to be way too acidic. The coffee at Tonic is dialed in to bring out pleasant nuances like fruit or berries, without being overly acidic. It's definitely a unique taste from your average medium roast. The EXPERIENCES... if you want to have an interesting date night, or try a variety of special drinks influenced by region, you must go to a private Tonic Coffee tasting experience! So far, they have featured a variety of countries, and each one with a special curated menu. There is truly nothing like this establishment. They are aiming to give you an experience that's much more than a coffee shop, and much more like a Michelin restaurant, with their private tastings. The staff is super knowledgeable, you can pick the lead barista's brain with his extensive knowledge. They are offering sensory classes soon, which I'm super excited about! If you come on the weekend, you will also meet the owner, Stephanie... she is hospitable, knowledgeable, and very attentive!Parking is available out front, sometimes you have to park around yoga traffic. Service dog friendly, and they also have water bowls available for your pup outside.

Absolutely fabulous well balanced coffee and non alcoholic cocktails. Tonic coffee and Flash brew are a must try. Love, love, love this coffee shop.

This coffeeshop has a very creative, upscale, and welcoming atmosphere. You can tell the baristas really know their coffee and enjoy developing and crafting innovative and tasty recipes. The Tonic Coffee (or coffee tonic? I forget) was stunningly and unbelievably delicious, I would recommend it to anyone. Will definitely return! Pictured: the tonic coffee and "warm hug".

If you’re looking for the Michelin star coffee experience this is IT. This place not only has a rotating menu of unique coffee options and mocktails like a coffee spritzer, the real star here is their “experiences”. These are very intimate, after hours tastings from around the world. Me and 3 of my friends got the whole coffee shop to ourselves for a trip to Ethiopia for $35. We learned all about the culture of Ethiopia and how coffee plays such a huge part of their hospitality traditions. We also got to try different and unexpected forms of coffee, such a coffee caviar, and traditional Ethiopian drinks like honey mead (non-alcoholic). If coffee is not your thing, they also rotate in tea tastings, like the trip to Morocco. Our experience was hosted by the owner of the coffee shop and the lead barista, who were full of knowledge and passion for coffee. This was such a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys coffee or tea. The experiences are capped at 5 people and are only offered once a week, so you will want to book it well in advance. SO worth it!

Unique coffee and tea shop recently opened in Lawrenceville. Specializes in “mock tails” for a different taste effect.Their signature item tonic coffee is basically an elderflower infused tonic water. Has espresso in it but you really can’t taste it for all the herb goodness it provides.Another favorite is the warm hug made from oat milk. Menu subject to change soon.Owner is hosting special events based on country of origin for certain coffees.Check out their website for more.Tonic coffee and warm hug both delicious for either a cold or hot beverage
