I'm from South Philly, the home of the Cheese Steak. And I wish I could get a cheese steak sandwich half as good as Uncle Sam's in Philly. The place is small and often busy, but I try to get there every time I visit Pittsburgh. Forget Primanti's, Uncle Sam's is the best place for a sandwich in the Burgh.
I really wanted to give Uncle Sam’s at Pitt a 5 star rating since their subs are really very good. This is the best cheesesteak in Pittsburgh since few (VERY FEW) places in western PA know how to make a Philly cheesesteak anywhere close to what you’d get in Philadelphia (and since I spent my childhood a short drive from Broad Street, I know what I’m talking about). Good God, I'm convinced you can't get a better cheese steak anywhere other than Uncle Sam's on the face of the Earth. I had the Ultimate Philly Cheese Steak and it was absolutely divine. The flavors of the mayo, fried onions, mushrooms, and especially the steak meshed perfectly. Best sandwich shop in Pittsburgh hands down.
